S/O of the delivery room post: For those girls who want their moms in w them
Why do you?
I can kind of understand for moral support while you are laboring (which is what we had, my mom was in there until I was getting set up to push) but I *personally* feel the birth itself should between the mother and father and then the baby.

Re: S/O of the delivery room post: For those girls who want their moms in w them
My mom was with me the whole time... because she's my mom... and we have a that type of close relationship... and I was scared, and yes, my DH was there- but he's never been through a birth.. and my mother was scared because I am HER baby and she wanted to be there for me... I had a daughter, and she is named after my mother and my grandmother and I saw it as DD joining this great legacy of beautiful, strong women- so Iwanted my mom there to see her name sake come into the World- which she didn't, b/c I had a c-section.

I am so jealous of you ladies, because odds are I won't have my husband or mom around for it. Luckily I just hired a doula and my husband was home for the birth of our son. It's just questionable if he will make it back in time for our daughter.

My mom is a nurse and she's also good at talking to DH about medical stuff, kind of calming him down. So I think she'd be v. good for both of us.

I want my mom and DH. My mom is a nurse so that makes me feel very comfortable, and I go to her about EVERYTHING medical so I feel very comfortable with her being there.....and safer too.

Well I am super duper close to my mom. Like REALLY close.. LOL
Also she is a labor and delivery nurse and I really feel like I need her there. That way she can calm me down if I get upset about anything.

I have a feeling I will NEED her there when it gets rough. The thought of actually giving birth absolutely terrifies me in the worst way and I honestly think my mom with be able to comfort me like no other. She's been through it 5 times and for some reason that makes me feel better. Don't get me wrong having my boyfriend there with me is the most important to me. What can I say...I'm a big 33 year old baby who still needs her mommy...lol.

When I had my Son, I was a single mom. My Mother was there for me every step of the way. Looking back she says that that was the best experience of her life, to see her baby have a baby...now that I'm having a girl, I can almost relate to how she feels. Its definately a personal thing, I'm very close to my Mom, this time it will only be my DH, I think.....

Re: S/O of the delivery room post: For those girls who want their moms in w them
For me, I feel the birth is a family affair. I would love to have my mom in the room b/c she always gets me through tough times. I wanted my MIL in there too b/c she was a l&d nurse for years (now she does intravenous stuff).
However, DH feels strongly that it should be just him and I in the room for the actual birth, so no mamas.

Who knew so many grandma's to be were L&D nurses
Well, I don't know, I still wouldn't have changed what we did and I am SUPER close to my mom as well. I just kind of think that since DH and I were the only people there when we made DS, we should be the people there when he was born

Re: S/O of the delivery room post: For those girls who want their moms in w them
My mom was in the room both times, 1st time not by my choice but by necessity-my LD nurse had a cracked rib and i needed someone else to hold my legs since they were numb from the epi.
2nd time for the c section, my mom wanted to be in there.
At first i didn't want her there cause i agree with you it should be between dad/mom/baby, but we still had our bonding and my mom was there to take pictures of it so DH could be with me and baby. Also, my mom was so honored and proud to see her daughter give birth, she cried more than i did.
It was very touching and i have great pics of my daughters' births and the first tender moments between us and them.

My mom and DH were in the room. I feel a million times closer to my mom now that she was there with me. We were so close to begin with - so her being there was extra special.

Re: S/O of the delivery room post: For those girls who want their moms in w them
I'm still trying to decide upon my Mom. Mainly because I have the feeling I'll only get annoyed when I'm really uncomfortable if too many people are around, though the only person right now is DH.
I like the idea of having her in their because she's my mom, she always took really good care of me when I wasn't feeling well, I think she would have a better understanding of how I'm feeling than DH. She was also an RN before she retired, and I like the idea of having one more person with a medical background there to help me.

My mom was in the delivery room for the birth of my son. She was comforting when I was in pain and walked with me when they had me walking up and down the hallway to speed labor up. I was very happy she was there! She has a great relationship with my DH and it wasn't crowded in the room.

Re: S/O of the delivery room post: For those girls who want their moms in w them
I would never want my mom in the room w/ me because she is worthless in this situation: faints at the first sight of blood. My aunt was with me all 53 hours of delivery with my DS, from start to finish. We are very close and she (although tried everything possible) was never able to have children of her own. I wanted her to be able to experience it,the closest she will ever come to delivery and all the emotions it comes with. I'm definetly the "favored" niece . But seriously,it made our strong bond even stronger. For baby #2, my sister, mom and aunt were with me while I was laboring..only DH was present for the actual delivery. It was definetly the most intimate and memorable event of our relationship.
So I can see both side, for and against it.
