Safe Gates for Stairs?
We just moved out of NY, and into a house, so I've never paid much attention to gates. I should mention that my DD LOVES to climb stairs (with our help) and is drawn to the staircase like a moth to a flame. We tried installing the Safety 1st Swing and Lock gate with hardware mount at the top of the stairs, but it was pulling the screws out of the wall when it swung open- it wouldn't last more than a week, so we took it out. Many gates are not made for the top of the stairs- I am so confused about which ones are safe! In addition, the bottom of our staircase has the wall on one side, and is open on the other. The opposite wall begins on the 3rd step. I have NO idea what to do about this.
PLEASE PLEASE recommend a safe gate system!!! TIA

Re: Safe Gates for Stairs?
It sounds like you need to install the gate into a stud, not just the drywall. Maybe try moving it to another location further from the top of the stairs?
As for the bottom, I bought a gate that configures multiple ways from Walmart since I have a staircase with only one wall. BRU carries it also. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8456791 It can do an L shape, zig zag, etc. Each piece locks in place, it's really a great gate.
