SAHM- what do you do in the summer with DC's?
DS will be one in May and I am looking forward to doing fun stuff with him since last summer he was a newborn and we were limited to walks around the neighborhood. My mom has an inground pool and is off for the summer so I am sure we will be there 1-2 times a week to swim. We take swimming and a baby sign language class right now, but I was thinking of taking a break from classes for the summer. I just feel like places like the park, beach, zoo etc. will be much more fun with someone so we will do all that stuff on weekends when DH is with us. Most of my friends don't have kids yet so they work all day and are not around either. My BFF doesn't have kids and she is a teacher and off so we were thinking of walking on the Jones Beach boardwalk every Friday. But other than that, what should I do?? I'm afraid we are going to be SO bored this summer!

We have a list of places we want to take DC this summer including the zoo, aquarium, central park, the sprinkler park, etc. But we will probably do those things on weekends so DH can go with us. I will look into a meet up group, thanks! If anyone has any kids born in spring 2011 and lives in the northeastern queens/western nassau area, let me know!

Re: SAHM- what do you do in the summer with DC's?
I don't live on Long Island. But we have similar activities here:
Sprinkler park in an outdoor mall, zoo, parks, indoor inflatable gyms, we also belong to an athletic club that has a great outdoor pool/kiddie pool with a UV tent over it, library storytime, play dates with friends.
As far as doing fun activities with DH, I often do the same ones with the kids alone during the week. The places are much less crowded.

Re: SAHM- what do you do in the summer with DC's?
My girls will do camp for a few weeks - one goes 2 days the other 3. It is 3 hours in the morning. They will go different days - so I will have one at a time. Last summer I would take one to the village community pool (located across the parking lot from the camp) while the other was in camp - then I would pick her sister up and we would have a picnic lunch and play at the pool some more. On rainy days or non camp days we did - playdates, zoo, aquarium, LICM, etc. My DD#2 was too young to do much last summer - but my older DD also did some gymnastics camp and a little sports camp in our village that was 1 hour in the mornings that gave them an introduction to 5 different sports. That program was only a week though. We were very busy.
There are so many things you can do. Between the museums, beaches, parks, zoos, aquariums etc.
We didn't do this but I know some people who got a summer pass to Adventureland or to White Post Farms.

Re: SAHM- what do you do in the summer with DC's?
I was always a teacher and now I babysit for one of my teacher friend's daughters, so we have always had SO MUCH fun over the summer.
We go to the beach...if it's just us and it's a spur of a moment beach day we go to Jones Beach since that is the closest...
If it's a planned beach trip we head otu to Riverhead and go to Indian Island Park...which is a very small beach mostly for fishing and we love it there...my whole family goes.
We spend a lot of time in the pool, we have a small aboveground pool in the backyard.
We go to my sister's house once a week because she has a swim instructor who comes to the house and my DD takes lessons and we spend the day, have lunch, etc.
We also get a town pool pass and go there once a week or so which is nice because we see all the local Moms and my DD sees her local friends.
Holtsville Ecology Center is a great place...free petting zoo and a really nice playground that they built a year or two ago.
When it gets too hot we go to the mall and play at the indoor play area. We will go to the Long Island Children's Museum, and we LOVE the NYC Aquarium in Coney Island!!
There are also a lot of great sprinkler parks on Long Island. They are fun for all ages!

Re: SAHM- what do you do in the summer with DC's?
Thanks ladies! DS will be too young for Adventureland this summer but I may look into the White Post Farms pass. We have never been but that is on our list for the summer. Does anyone know of any sprinkler parks in Bayside/Douglaston/Little Neck/Great Neck? Venetion Shores is too far from us and I don't really want to pay all that money when DS will probably only last an hour.

Re: SAHM- what do you do in the summer with DC's?
We hang out with my mom and other teacher friends that are off, go to my parents condo in Ocean City NJ, hang out at the playground, check out various beaches around LI, LICM (free passes from our library), library programs, maybe go to Manhattan once or twice. Mostly the same things we do during the rest of the year but include beach at least twice a week. oh yeah also doing a two week summer Mommy and Me at our church in July.

There is a spray park on little neck parkway (in little neck) a bit past northern blvd. it's attached to a school and it had a big dragon that sprays.very cute my kids loved it when we lived there

We live right near here- I was going to suggest this sprinkler park. We also go to the farm in bellerose. We go for walks on the marina (along the cross island pkwy) & some days we just stay home & have playdates come over or we go to their houses.

I'm in Northeast Queens as well, DS will be 1 next month, we're free all summer. DH is off bc he is a teacher but I would love to spend some time away from DH also, and set up some play dates for DS. FM me and we can meet up.
I plan on taking DS to the beach, zoo, parks -- we might take a few days and go to hershey park, even though he's a little young, we may be able to get him on a few rides.
