Also...its important to keep in mind that each child develops at a diff pace.

Just because he a child goes to daycare doesn't mean they speak earlier...

I babysit 2 children who are in daycare full time and the 19 month old boy is not talking (just gestruring and babble). His big sister however talked at 13 months. I think so much of that stuff is just up to the child and when they're ready!

I am happy he is a Dec baby so I get an extra year at home with himChat Icon

I think its a mix....some kids are going to talk no matter what.

I also know that not every sahm is cookie cutter either. Sometimes I want to SCREAM get that kid out of the house and do something!! That's where I think daycare might be better then staying at home for some.

I take Josh somewhere atleast once a day. To me that is priceless and the kind of childhood I want to provide.

No I make sure I bring her to playdates and go to classes with other children her age. I think socialization is very important.

I dont see how it can hurt to put them in daycare at around 1. They learn to play with others and if you have the $$ I say do it, it doesnt have to be every day all day, but some time for yourself or if you want to work part time, i think its good fro the kids :)

I am not a SAHM but i Just put DS in daycare b/c of the reasons you had stated. My mom and MIl shared the time watching him and I felt that he could learn more and gain better social skills while being in daycare. So far he is doing great and he is talking/babbling a lot more and saying more words. He is also learning so much there and just becoming a big boy! So I am happy with the decision I made. His grandparents well they aren't so happy.

I am not a SAHM, but it sounds like you are already providing a lot of opportunities for socialization, etc.

My personal opinion-I like a hybrid approach from a very early age. I think most children benefit from the structure and learning opportunities in a day care center. In a perfect scenario, I would want my DD to be in a daycare/structured environment for 5 hours or so. However, since the world is not perfect, she goes for 7.5-8 hours.

Absolutely 100% NO! If that were the case, I would be running back to work because being a SAHM was never my life-long dream. Chat Icon I stay home because we feel it's the best thing for our children. My older DD is exceptionally verbal and has been since day one. My younger one...well, she's catching up! Neither one is socially stunted and in fact, my younger DD--who I've been home with her entire life--is much friendlier than her sister.

I enrolled DD#1 in a little playschool 1 day a week right when she turned 2--it was more to combat boredom (for both of us) than it was to enrich her education. We also attend Just Wee Two together weekly. Both girls and I will do Music Together this summer as well as do a lot of playdate stuff and visits to the grandparents. It sounds like what you're doing is totally enough. And honestly, I think you have the best case scenario between working and SAH. He's out and about AND he's with you.

Personally, I think there's an enormous amount of pressure on parents today to "keep up with the Jones'" and constantly compare their children's progress with others. You--and he--are doing great!
