SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
I give you SAHMs of 1 toddler A LOT of credit, I have 2 boys very close in age.... so they basically keep eachother company all day long-making it REALLY easy for me!
But yesterday my sister had one of my sons for the day... and boy I found it evenTOUGHER having to entertain my one son all day long! Just curious what your day is like with your toddlers-in other words, what activities do you do to entertain them all day long???

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
Well, I am at home one day a week and follow a school calendar, SO when I am home we go out a lot. Playdates, parks, zoos, etc. When we have to stay home its impossible to play all day. My 2 year old is pretty good with occupying himself with his cars and trucks while I tend to my 10 month old. Right now they are both climbing on me...does that count as playing? Inside activities: playdoh, coloring, aquadoodle, puzzles, pretend play with farm, garage, doctor's kit, etc.

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
Oh boy, well I try to play with her as much as I can but in all seriousness.. it doesnt always happen.
DD is really good when it comes to entertaining herself, playing with the dog and cat Ill take out the play-doh if I really want to keep her in one certain spot (kitchen table). Coloring and "helping" me clean are other things we do.
I do let her watch TV, but I limit that. I have all her shows DVR'd and when she gets a lttle cranky and I just cant get on the floor with her I put a show on.
I know what you mean when you say having 2 is easier on you because they play with eachother, because when I babysit another child Kaila doesnt even look my way.
So to answer your question, NO i dont play with her all day lol, but I try my best.

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
my boys are ages 5 1/2, 4 and almost 2 so although im not on the floor playing with them around the clock, i do have to be near them at all times, just because theyre a little wild
we do activities together, then separate, we rotate, it gives everyone a break and I get quick things done around the house while I chat with them or they follow me around usually grabbing hold of my legs and not letting me walk away . they like their alone time too, reading or playing videogames, tv, coloring. and now lots more outdoor stuff, playdates, parks, etc.
I think it's impossible for any mom to play with her kids all day, unless she has full time help to get other things done.

Plain and simply, NO. I would never get things done if I did, like the laundry, cooking dinner, taking a shower, etc. They watch a little TV in the morning (like now ) and then later on, they will play together (although not always nicely ) and they also each have separate time with mommy and daddy (to play a game or read or both).

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
Well, this morning I've already pretended to ride on my own dump truck, we played on my 4 month old's paymat and went to the store (pretend) - not to mention 100 other things that we did this mornning. Right now he is on my back saying that we are in atruck going to buy strawberry shortcake....and it's not even 10 am yet. I just can't play all day everyday so sometimes I try to get him to help me clean or he just plays with his toys alone.

I am laughing reading these responses, because I can so relate.... and NO i certainly DONT have F/T help-or any help for that matter!
Yesterday when I just had my one son.... we went to the park & fed the ducks, fingerpainted, food shopped, and played hide and seek around the house, and by 11 AM he was asking "what are we going to do today"! I was wiped out, i think I need to start taking vitamins or something! lol!

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
I read to him, he likes to "wrestle" on the floor in his room, sometimes I'll sit on the floor with him and play leggos or cars, he likes to throw the ball back and forth now but alot of the time, he plays by himself. He pushes his toys around the house, he sits on the floor and "reads" to himself, LOVES to play with his cars. We also go out alot when I'm home whether it be shopping or to the park. He also likes to ride his toys outside and walk his toys up and down the sidewalk.

Same here.... TV in the AM because DD takes awhile to "wake up". We play most of the day and in between I do things....she actually helps too! I'll have her put laundry in the dryer or use a swiffer.

I have twin 2 year old girls and i have to entertain them ALL day long. They rather play with me then each other. THis is why i put them in Camp 3 days a week...for 3 hours..They need major structure or they go nuts!

I am a summer SAHM (teacher) but my DH is a SAHD the rest of the year. Yes, whichever one of us is home plays with DD pretty much all day.

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
I alternate. Floor, Couch, Cleaning, Back on Floor. I babysat up until this past Wed. and the 2 kids entertained each other. I also read books to them, we went on walks, blew bubbles, played with every toy we could. Right now, DS is practically at my feet, playing his all time favorite..Ball! We already played ball, built with legos, brushed the cat. I do have to return books to the library (due today)..thank goodness for drop slots. Then it will be naptime and this afternoon we'll play some more and then laundry (Oh fun). As of Monday, he should be feeling even better, I plan on being outdoors A LOT!

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
Well, I'm home for the summer and Ava is sometimes good about entertaining herself, but she happens to think I'm there to be her playmate and her playmate only I basically get nothing done all day. It's really annoying because JT perpetuates this all school year long. I need to break her of this over the summer. It's starting to get old. I need to be able to clean and cook without her hanging on me expecting for me to entertain her.

Re: SAHMs of TODDLERS...do you actually "PLAY" with your kids all day?!
As much as I would love to play with him all day I can't. He likes playing with the fridge magnets, looking at his favorite books, I take out his toy box.
If I put on a Mickey mouse clubhouse DVD I could get tonssssssss done but I don't want him watching tv for hours so I limit it to 1 hour (sometimes an hour and a half)
I also have my parents next door that keep him entertained but they are leaving for Italy in 2 weeks and will be gone for 2 months. However DH (who is a teacher) is now off for the summer so guess who is going to be keeping DS entertained all summer long... But he's looking forward to spending lots of quality time with DS because during the school year it's hard cuz his workday is never done when he always has school work to do in the evenings and on weekends.
