SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
Do you plan on sending DC to some sort of preschool pt or are you just waiting for the official school age? How old are they also?

I will probably be sending Jared to pre-school next year. I just have to get on the waiting list for the place I want to send him to.

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
My older son started when he was 3.
He went to Nursery school, then Pre-K in a catholic school.
Now he is in Kindergarten in a small neighborhood school.
My little guy is 2. I just signed him up for a library class, but I stay with him.
Next September, he'll go to Nursery school just like his older brother did.
I feel it is good for them. They make friends, socialize and get used to a school environment.

Katherine just turned 2 last month and she began a 1 day a week playschool--I would have preferred 2 days, but DH didn't want her to go at all, so it's a fair compromise. It's 2.5 hours.

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
Here is ct, we have 1/2 day kindergarden, full days don't start until 1st grade/6 years old, so I want to send DD to preschool which is sponsored by each town.
She's 17 months now.
How/where do find toddler classes?

I sent both my older kids when they were 3 (or going on 3 in my DS's case). I will do the same with my youngest. I don't think sending them earlier is a bad idea, I just rather keep them home longer esp #3

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
My ds is 2 now we just signed up for classes at the library which I get to stay with him but I hopping next yr when he is 3 to put him in a pre-school. (just have to make sure he's potty trained) But I feel that it will only benefit him by being around other children his age and to learn to listen to someone other then mom But when I send him it will be only 2-3days a wk for any where from 2-3hrs a day, maybe the yr before kindergarten I would consider something all day since our kindergarten here is full day.

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
My daughter just started at a preschool this September. She is 2.5 and goes two mornings a week. She loooooves going and has so much fun -- mommy just doesn't have the energy for all the fun and messy activities she gets to do there!

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
Jacob is 2 and goes to a toddler program T,Th,F for 2 hours a week. He is enjoying it so I will be extending his days on Tues and Thursday from 9:30-1.
Next year he will be 3 and will be going 5 days a week. Don't know the hours as of yet but at leat 3 hours per day..
I will tell you that in my area you sign up for the following September( Sept. 08) this December...
At this point last year I was touring the different toddler programs to see what best suited our needs..
I also suggest finding out if there is a mommy and me at the place where you will be sending them so they get acclimated to the place beforehand... The best thing I did was send Jacob to a mommy and me starting last January and then continued with camp this past summer at the place where now he is attending school.. If that doesn't work try a partial separation class somewhere else...

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
I may enroll DS next Sept. (he will be around 19 months) into a 2 day, PT program. My nephew was enrolled in the same program and it was good. Just to get him to be able to start getting used to other children on his own.
Right now (he's 8 months) we go to Little Gym and the library. I stay with him at both programs.

DW is a SAHM. DS went to Gymboree once a week from about 1 year. He started karate around 3. He started preschool around 3.5, and he's in pre-K now, at just over 4.

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
we are going to put her into a program next Sept when she will be 2 1/2. The cut off date down here is Sept 1st, and I personally feel she is too old/advanced for a 1 year old room right now.

Sarah started nursery school this year at 2.5. We're going to send both kids to camp this summer at the same school (Andy will be 2) and then they will both attend pre-school in the fall.

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
DS just started last month and he is 3. 2 days - 2.5 hrs.
I had him signed up for full day, but it was a week before school and he still was not trained or refused underwear sometimes. So I switched him to 1/2 day. I'm sorry now, because the training thing caught on literally at school orientation standing at the urinal with his new friends... too freakin' cute! AND I have to drag him out of school, some days he is cryng not to leave
Next year defintely 3 days - full day. We have full day kindergarten here.
(we did do a 2 year old 1day program last winter at this same preschool, but it was more like a mommy and me since the parents stay and play in the class.)

Re: SAHM's when do you plan on sending your DC to some sort of "schooling"
I started my son in nursery school at age 3. I could have sent him at 2 years old, but I had just had DD and he wasn't ready to separate at that time. He did wonderful when his time came.
I thought about sending DD next September to the same school as DS (he'd be in the 4 year old program and she would be in 2 year old), but I decided I will not. She will go and start school at the same age as DS did - when she is 3.

My older guy started at 2 years and my little guy will start at 2 as well. I thought it was great for him. He made friends and we had some space apart during the day!!
