SAHMs...fun things while dad is at work or take one for the team? working moms too
The past 3 years we have gone to the hot air balloon festival.
We love it. Leo looks forward to it each year. Bring sandwiches, blankets, listen to music, good time. He requested off this year and found out him getting off Fri, Sat or Sun is a no go. He really hasn't had a day off this week at all.
It is going on tonight. Free tonight, so it would not come out of our "family fun fund" Do I just take the kids and go solo? Is that mean to do while he is working? He would tell me to go, but does he really mean it? decisions decisions.

I would definitely go. It will be fun for the kids, I don't see it as mean at all. I bet if you stayed home your DH would feel even worse that he couldn't get time off, like he "ruined" it for you guys.

I would go. I would imagine that Josh loves it, so that would be reason enough for me. And I'm sure Leo would feel the same. He'd probably hate for Josh to go a whole year without seeing it just because he can't go.

If it was "his" thing, and he has to miss it, then no, I wouldn't go. I'd find something else to do w/ the kids. -
IF you promised the kids you'd go, that's a different story

Re: SAHMs...fun things while dad is at work or take one for the team? working moms too
i struggle with this badly every weekend.... dave works both weekend days. his only days off are Friday & Monday...
he missed her first zoo and that still upsets me, but he says, what can i do?
i 'present' things like this to dave this way now, 'this is your chance, tell me if it will bother you if we go alone, i will respect your wishes if it will really bother you'. he has never said not to do something, but i won't do the 'big first things' like an amusement park (we could've gone to sesame this summer, but without him), taking her swimming, things like that without him there.
We've had a LOT of chances for things this summer that we've passed by without me even mentioning it to him because i knew he'd say to go and then wish he was there....
If it's not a 'first', and how you describe it, it's not, i'd ask him and when he says to go, GO.

josh has no idea that it is going on
it is over an hour away, Jessie will probably hate it
but, yeah, it is def dh's "thing" taking kids to amusement park solo tomorrow...sooo not leo's thing so I have zero issue doing that.
this just seems to be pouring salt on a wound

If your kids don't know or care, but you have an inkling that your husband might actually feel hurt, then I take back my earlier answer-- I would stay home. Everybody is different, and while I think my DH would feel worse/guiltier if we stayed home, maybe it would depress your DH about the time-off situation if you DID go. As long as the kids would not be disappointed, I would go with your gut and what would be kinder for your DH.

ITA. I think you've already answered your own question. It's Leo's "thing", he'd tell you to go but it sounds like he'd be real disappointed if you actually did. I'd skip it this year, especially since Josh doesn't even know about it

I think it would drive him crazy if i did not go...but at the same time he would hate his life for not being able to go!
have a park playdate now at 2:30. that makes me feel better. it was that moment of sitting here wondering what to do with my day
