working moms who pump at work..

How long did you continue pumping at work ?

It's only my 4th day back at work and I find it really annoying....

dragging the PIS on the train, finding a quiet moment to pump, cleaning the pump and then doing it all again in a few hours.

and then there are the occasional stupid comments I get from men about milk for their coffee, etc. Chat Icon

Re: working moms who pump at work..

I did from September until the end of December ... my Christmas gift to myself was to stop pumping (I still BF at night/early AM and when I feel like it on weekends). It really became a chore at work and my supply was dropping.

If my supply had still been really good, as annoying as it all was, I don't know if I would have stopped. But in my situation it was way too much effort for so little reward. Chat Icon

ETA: I bought a second pump for $20 on craigslist so I wouldn't have to drag it back & forth on the LIRR/subway, set up at work, take back home, set up at home, pack up for work, on and on and on!!!!

Re: working moms who pump at work..

I've been back to work 7 weeks and have been doing it consistently.

i do it 3 times a day at least, about 20 minutes per session.

it IS annoying sometimes, but to me, the benefit of my son getting my milk is worth ANY and ALL discomfort, annoyance, loss of sleep etc that I may experience. I do it for him, who deserves all that I can give and more.

when I get down about it, I think of the above and know I cannot stop. but it's definitely NOT a joy.

I will say though that my son is only 3 months old...I am trying to go until 6 months and reevaluate there. it's just too important to me at this stage.

oh, next time anyone says anything about milk in their coffee...offer them a lawsuit up their arse. Chat Icon

I did it for 6 months, but I only work 3 days a week since I had DS. And we're a very small office. It takes some will power to continue, so stick to it and good luck. Chat Icon Chat Icon
