Salt intake
I have a question about salt intake and high blood pressure. The night before my DH's doctor appointment, I cooked dinner. I accidentally put too much salt! Well, the next day my DH went for a physical and the doctor told him he had High Blood Pressure. 140/100.
Later that day, we did 2 readings.... one was normal and one was prehypertension.....but not high. (cannot remember those readings)
In the evening, we happened to be at CVS......so of course we did another reading which revealed.... 119/79 . NOrmal!!
So do you think the salty dinner from the night before effected the readings for the next morning at the doctor's office? This was DHs first visit to him and of course, he wants a new doctor b/c he was like 97 years old. Upon asking him if dieting would change the levels, the doc mentioned .....no, there is nothing you can do it is hereditary. ?????? Of course, we did research and there is a correlation with changing diet.
Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Salt intake
It might not be related to either. There are a lot of people who's blood pressure rises up at the doctor- they call it "white coat syndrome".

My DH *claims* he has this, but both his dad and brother are on meds for high blood pressure, and his mom died of a stroke. I'm forcing him to go back and do what's necessary.
Oh, and he is VERY sensitive to salt. I can't even cook with it!

if there is a history of high blood presure then I would ask that he go for follow ups!

Re: Salt intake
My BP is always a little higher at the doc.
When I was in the hospital and they told me I may need surgery it went to 160/110! Talk about anxiety.
It's normally 120/70 or in that range for me.
When was the last time he had a doc take hsi pressure?

I have this, but for me it's the opposite, because I've been known to have fainting spells in the doctors office due to my fear of them, my blood pressure tends to get dangerously low.

Re: Salt intake
about 6mos ago in NY. But, he didn't really ask about the numbers.....he just said, slightly elevated. DH never questioned it since he didn't recommend diet, medicine.
