the flight & time change are a PITA, but it's such a great city for kids. We went last summer with our 2-year-old & loved it. We visited: Sea World (best part of the trip- they had a great kids section and we had breakfast with Ernie & friends) Lego Land LaJolla & aquarium the beach downtown & the piers

yes! We took our (then) 3 yo and 10 month old last year.
ITA with zoo, seaworld, legoland and the beach...also take a ride up Mount Soledad. We wanted to show our DS where we used to live and he loved the view. He still looks at the picture of the 4 of us on the wall and talks about that part of the vacation (which lasted for maybe an hour)
Another hit was walking around mission bay and DS loved all the boats/bridges.
I highly recommend Harry's in La Jolla for breakfast. It's diner-type and they love kids. We must have eaten there twice a week when we lived there.
