Wait, do we "have" to switch? 
I don't hate them and it really doesn't make a big difference but my car is sapphire blue and my plate goes so well with the car - white and the blue letters matches the car. Looks great! I always admire it. I'm sad!
Can you transfer your plate and get around this?

I "think" it to get money for the state. I believe everyone has to switch them over and they are charging for it.
Could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the 1st time

We bought a new car on Saturday and I requested the new plates, love em!! The guy at the dealership told me I was the only person there excited about getting the new plates. They go soooo nice with my new car!!!

I saw this the other day on an older Camaro and I thought it was an old school plate

I looked at the NY DMV site real quick, and it looks like you can still have a blue and white plate if you get a custom plate.

Oh I saw this yesterday - I also thought it was an OOS license plate.
Hmmm they look a bit retro to me - they remind me of when I was younger & my dads Volvo.
I was never a fan of the current ones anyway, so this will be cool IMO.

I got it on Saturday when I picked up my new car. Some lady actually waved me down, asked me if this was the new plate and then told me how ugly it was lol.
