Scam or Jam
So i was at the supermarket
As i was leaving a girl (young looking) came up to me and told me how she was a Stonybrook student and was driving her car when it ran out of gas...
Her car was on Commack Rd (not far but yet there is a gas station right at the corner from where we were). SHe said her friend was coming to pick her up but would it be possible to lend her some money to pay for the gas...
Since i have been in the situation myself i gave her some money...
As i drove off i was thinking about the good deed yet i thought....if her friend was coming to pick her up...she couldn't loan her a few bucks to get some gas?
Why was she at the supermarket and not by a gas station or her car?
So then i started thinking....was this a scam?
What do you think?

Definitely sounds like a scam - that's what you get for doing a good deed - nasty people who prey on the goodness of others!

who knows if it was a scam or not, just think if she really did need gas, you did a really nice deed.

Sounds scam-ish, but when you're in those situations, you don't always think clearly. Either way, good karma for you!

It's hard to tell. DH and I were approached in a mall parking lot once. It was a guy in his late teens/early 20s saying that his car broke down and he just needed a dollar to get on the bus.
I gave it to him because I was afraid. It was dark, we were alone, etc.
ANYWHO, as we were driving away, he actually DID get on the bus! So, even though I was 100% convinced that he was up to no-good, he really wasn't.
So, ya never know...

yea true....
i actually had it happened to me and a stranger helped me out...
So i felt that it was my way of paying that back to someone else who was in need...
and although i know what i did was good, it still bothers me now

I was approached around Christmas time in Stop & Shop parking lot by an older man with the same story.
He goes my car is down there (and pointed over to Jericho Tpk) and I didnt give him anything..I just didnt trust the situation.
If your car is on Jericho TPk (gas stations around), why come to the supermarket?
I dont know.
It does sound like a scam, but if its not, Kudos to you for doing a good thing, and shame on me for not trusting the situation

If she was desperate/ballsy enough to ask for it, she probably really needed it...for something....maybe not gas, but something.

could have been a scam, but for $5 or $10, it really could have been looking for gas $$. good for you for helping her out though
