I saw that at the one in east islip but I only go there when I am on my lunch break at work b/c my bank is there.
They don't have it at the one in Huntington yet, but I am annoyed with them b/c they stopped giving a free gallon of milk when you buy six, it was always a nice perk since DD drinks alot of mil

Used it the other night at the S&S in W. Babylon... LOVED IT! It was a hassel getting everything into the bags as we shopped and having to rearrange as we went, but it prevented us from putting a lot of unnecessary things in our cart because we were able to SEE how much we were spending. LOVE IT! And check out was a breeze!

Once the order is brought up by scanning the End Order barcode then scanning your card, the register will allow you to do things (like scanning coupons and putting in unscannable items that aren't on the electronic scales) before hitting Finish and Pay.
Interesting fact about those things: you can combine the random e-coupons that come up on the scanner with regular coupons for that item. So, let's say a 50 cent e-coupon for Hot Pockets comes up, and you have a 50 cent paper coupon. You can save $1.50 (50 cent e-coupon + 50 cent regular coupon + 50 cent regular coupon doubling).

If you're on self-checkout, you can give yourself the bag credit by hitting the produce button, then hitting the second box on the top row.

I just want to put my 2 cents in...They are doing this to try and eliminate jobs. That's not a good thing. Are children are going to need part time jobs one day. They won't need as many people at the checkout because of this cool scanning machine. My father works in Stop an Shop as a butcher and believe me when I tell you it's not a great as they make it seem.

I know I'll probably get blasted for saying this but anyway...
If the 'children' at the checkout registers did their jobs in a timely manner (no text messaging or talking to 5 of your buddies while you're ringing me up..) and with less of an attitude (don't sigh loudly when I need help bagging) then I won't use the scanner.
When given the option to wait on line for 20 minutes and then get crappy service, or do it myself in 5 minutes? I'll do it myself.

DH and I tried this at the S&S we go to and I thought it took longer to scan everything and bag it one item at a time. I don't plan on using it again.

The commack one in Jericho is no doing this/... I didn't see it at the entrance I entered .. turns our it was at the exit door  and the worker were too busy talking to help anyone. But we saw it at the other entrance and that lady was getting people to do it. Our cart was full by then, I'm bummed I wanted to try it!! Next time hopefully they'll still be doing it.

Levittown has it now too! And the guy at the door says Carle Place has it too.
We used it today, what a breeze. It was so easy to use and we were able to just scan out really quickly at the end. I could still use my coupons and got special savings on certain items.
The only thing I didn't get was the $1 off for using Scan-It. There was nothing about that written anywhere.

I agree with this. I won't use it. I went to Stop and Shop yesterday, SATURDAY, and there were only 2 actual cashiers on. The only other open registers were self check-outs, and they were pushing these Scan-It things. Not only can teenagers not get these part-time jobs, but what about the old timers who have worked their for years, and are making a good salary? Of course, they want them out to save $$.

I see it that way. I think it will make SandS busier - which means they are going to have to hire more stock people, floor people, etc...
It creates different needs in the store that might not exist now. A lot of people get their groceries delivered...maybe this will actually bring people BACK into the store?!
I am a fan, as a mom with a toddler, ANYTHING that gets me out of the store faster and easier is a bonus.

As for the cashier situation, S&S is STILL better than some Pathmarks or most Waldbaums. If it's not 5 PM, good luck with having more than a register or two open.

I'm not sure if those people are S&S employees though. They might be Motorola employees. When our store first got them, I asked the woman that gave the demonstration how to get the discount for the green bags and she said "Oh, I don't know, I'm not a S&S employee."
