Scary night last night!
I got off the train and was on my way to the post office last night (which I drive right past my house on the way), as I turn the corner I see all these flashing lights. I was thinking to myself, ohhh no, I hope nothing happened to my neighbor. As i get closer I realize that its MY house that they are in front of!!!!!! 
I pull up to the house,jump out of the car and run up to the house. There are 2 engines, the chief and a police officer outside of my house. as I was pulling up I see my mom go inside with the fireman. My first thought was something happened to my DAd!! 
I run up to the house, and there were a few fireman outside. I yelled,..what happened...of course they look at me like I am crazy. I say, "This is my house"
It turns out that when my mom can home the CO2 detector was going off. She thought there was a problem with the battery, tried to reset it, didnt work, then call the fire dept. She was getting a reading of 275...it usually 0. They told her to get out of the house and within 2 mins they were there!!!!
They took some readings and didnt detect anything. They told us the detector has gone bad and we need a new one AND we need one for upstairs also.
I Thank god is wasnt serious but my god, I got the scare of my life to see emergency workers outside of my house!!!
Of course my cat was under the bed, scared to death!! It took a while for him to come out.

Wow... glad everything turned out OK. The closest to that that I ever got was seeing emergency vehicles at what appeared to be my house from down the road (it's about .5 miles of straight road till my house). They were technically in front of my house, but only because of the overflow because they were there for my neighbor. Nothing serious, but wow, what a shock for a few minutes! I can't imagine having them actually at my own house when I came home!

OMG i am very very happy to hear that you had a false alarm
i just got new ones and they are hard wired, but it also had a sticker to mark a date on them to know when to change them... i believe it was 12/13 that i have to change them..... 7 years later
