Schedule for a one month old

I know it is probably too early for DD to be on a strict schedule, but we are having trouble getting her to sleep at night. She takes 2 or 3 naps in the day, is that too much? Is there anything we can do to so that she is tired at night and not looking at us ready to party? TIA!!

Re: Schedule for a one month old

It's def wayyy to early to start a schedule, but not too early to start teaching her the difference between day and night.

2-3 naps a day are good, i wouldn't change that, she needs her rest. DD used to take more than that during the day at that age actually.

During the day when she naps, keep daytime noises there, don't make it quiet for her, keep her blinds open in her room if she naps there or whereever. Play, talk to her during the day.

At night however, don't make eye contact, don't talk to her, try to change her as little as needed, use a nightlight if you have to change her. Pretty soon she'll realize, nighttime is no fun and will realize daytime is the time to play, night is for sleep.

It will take awhile, but sooner or later she'll realize the flow.

Hopefully you'll get lucky and she'll sleep through the night for you around 2 months

I thought a baby could be on a schedule right away but learned quickly that wouldn't happen. I think the best thing to do like the poster above said, establish a routine. Whether it be bath, stories, bottle, bed.... and just be consistent. And also keep it noisy during the daytime with lots of lights and then at night just keep it very quiet and low talking.
