Scholastic Book Orders?
DD always wants the books w/ the toys. I don't mind spending the $$ but I feel she doesn't even care for the books.
Do you buy every month?

Re: Scholastic Book Orders?
I bought a Halloween package early in October and just placed my 2nd order. My DD is in Kindergarten and I don't show her the Scholastic flyer. I order what I want her to have & she is none the wiser.

Re: Scholastic Book Orders?
why oh why are there toys esp legos in a book order? drives me nuts! I am a bad mom according to my son who won't buy him the $30 toy!! He even offered to use his own money (he's in 1st grade) but he has no concept of what money is and no way is he getting it. What a battle this week!
I tell him and his brother (PreK) to pick one book each $4 or under and that's what they get. Then I sometimes pick a book or two to add on that I think is good for them. They can also combine their money to buy a book set or something like that to share. I have let them use their own money to buy something small with legos - things that are $15 and under but no way am I or am letting them spend $29 esp if I do it once they'll think they can do it whenever they want!

My last rule was we will get books after you've read every single book you already have.
So far I haven't bought any this year. I will buy for a classroom but not my kids.

I usually buy but didn't this month. I wasn't too thrilled with the choices. I wish my son's teacher did it online because I think you have more choices then.

Not every month, but on occassion. I usually let her pick one book when I do and then get one or two of the sale books. She loves to read and I usually spoil her when it comes to books because I think its great.

This was my rule too!!! I bought the first 3 months and DD didn't even read the books. I told her I am not buying again until she finishes those 3 chapter books that she already picked out.
This month she wanted to buy a valentine stationary kit. I told her if she really wanted it to spend her $. Her response, and I quote "no way, I'm not wasting my money on that crap!" Well needless to say I didn't waste my money either! At least she was honest.

Unfortunately DD comes home w/ the flyer in hand! I am sure the teacher "talks it up" in class too. I have dodged the last two months, I need to stay strong!

Aha! My DD is a little younger as you said and she doesn't pay much mind to what comes home in her backpack. I guess I am lucky this year!
I like the idea that someone had about setting a limit. The $4 limit didn't seem too bad.
