thats what I thought. the snow is only sticking to the cars not the roads.

I think early dissmisal is so much harder for parents

Exactly! I shudder to think how many vacation days and hours I'd have to use up if I had kids in school- with the way they shut down at the first flake of snow!

The news is saying now that Long Island will be BAD later on. I guess they are taking precautions. Id rather them do that so I can make sure my child is home safe instead of sliding all over the roads with them in the car.

Re: SCHOOL CLOSINGS 2/3/2009

i remember when i was a kid it had to be some serious snow or ice to make anything shut down and that hardly ever happened. I just really don't get it, its not going to be so horrible out 3" max and that's nothing! I feel bad for people with kids who have to constantly leave work because of it.

Neither do we. It was a BIG deal when they let us out early when we had that really bad ice storm last Valentine's Day. Mind you it was 4:30 when they let us go and we get out at 5:00.

After clearing off all the ice on the cars it was after 5pm before we really got out!

What I find is- they wait till the roads get REALLY bad and then say- oh it's getting bad, maybe we should let you leave early!
Well by that point, I'm still driving in horrible condidtions so I might as well wait at this point for the plows to get out.
The right thing to do would be to let everyone get home BEFORE the roads become a hazzard...but PLEASE... yeah right!!!

they do it because a few years ago they did not send them home early and children in the sachem(and others) had to walk on dangerous roads because buses could not make it up and down hills. bus drivers released kids as young as kindergarten (which they are not allowed to do without a parent there) to walk on those roads. i know this because keiths cousins daughter who was in kindergarten about 5 years ago was let off her bus and told to walk home a good distance. she was thankfully picked up by a neighbor who saw her walking.

i would rather have my child home when there is nothing , so when it is bad i am not going out of my mind with worry.

so quick to forget when stuff like that happens, if it did not happen to you or your family.
