Plus, if something happens, you're still responsible even if the crossing guard said it was ok.

There's a crossing guard by my in laws who apparently doesn't understand the meaning of a stop sign. She waves you on angrily if you don't blow the stop sign bc of her directions. It's super annoying

There’s a crossing guard like this at the Americana (Manhasset). I will always instinctively stop at a stop sign, crossing guard or not. When I do, he yells and waves his arms. I will never blow a stop sign bc a man in a yellow vest is telling me to.

That guy isn't really a crossing guard - he's a security guard that directs traffic within the parking lot. There's three of them. I feel like it's okay to follow his instructions because there's also a very very small police station in that parking lot so they must see them every day and they don't have a problem with it! I will always blow those stop signs when they wave me on! lol

I’ve thought to myself that it’s probably not necessary, but it’s instinctive!

As an aside, I’ve noticed at least one of the men goes on break and hides his vest in a bush LOL!

Crossing guard at my school does this to me all the time. I stop at the stop sign and I need to edge out a little to see if anyone is coming. She makes a nasty face at me and waves me on. I can't just blindly go bc she waved me. I need to see with my eyes where I am driving. She makes me nuts. Just let me look!

Isn't that their job? To stop traffic when a child needs to cross?

School zones are 20mph so it really shouldn't be a problem for people to stop when they see a crossing guard out with their stop sign. I've seen people FLY through our school zones, tailgating other cars, so I can see how this would be a problem if you aren't paying attention, or driving fast.

They walked the child across the street AGAINST TRAFFIC. The guard stopped the traffic who had a green light so the child could cross. The child did NOT have a green light. How is that safe?????

This wasn't a stop sign. This was a main intersection with a traffic light. Two busy streets.

Yes, crossing gourds have absolute control over the traffic and over ride traffic lights, stop signs etc. If you have a green light and they say stop, the driver MUST stop. Just like if a police officers was directing traffic, he/she can over ride everything
