School District Speech therapist outsourced

I just learned that my son is seeing a speech therapist from an outside agency for his group sessions. He has 4 group sessions and has one with the district speech therapist that has been there for years that I heard so many wonderful things about her.

I have to admit I'm a little bummed that the he doesn't have the school therapist full time. I met with the other therapist and she is very "new" and not that experienced compared to the district therapist. Simple questions I felt she should have the answer to she was directing me to the main district therapist to ask.

Should I say something, should I wait and see how it's going should I just request to have him see the district therapist only. Honest opinions please on what you would do. My concern is that the therapists wont be on the same page as how the therapy is run and honestly I prefer the most experienced to work with him.

I would appreciate those who know how group speech lessons are run in school is there a lot of communication when you're dealing with two different therapists?

I would definitely address the concerns with the school. Let them know up front that you are concerned with having 2 therapists and that they may not be on the same page. Make sure you find out what they are doing to make sure that your child receives consistent services.

I know as more kids enter into the school districts some do not have the resources to hire another therapist and the district one may be at max capacity so they have to bring in an outside therapist.
Being a new therapist in the district they may not want to answer specific questions not wanted to step on any toes? Just a thought. But it can't hurt to talk to the school and speech therapists to make sure that your childs needs are met!

School District Speech therapist outsourced

DD gets speech three times a week, 1 individual and 2 group. She has two different therapists. I never found it to be a problem at all, but I do know that they share the same office space and speak constantly so I know they all work basically the same. I would address how the therapists communicate with each other. That is a totally valid question.

I would have no issue if the speech therapist was outsourced. All that is means is that they are being paid from a different source. It has not bearing on how good or not good they are. We outsource all our OT and PT programs at school as well as some reading specialists.
