Screaming in the middle of the night and we don't know what's wrong
Anyone else's toddler go through a period of crying a lot in the middle of the night? We have no idea what it's about Maybe teething? The past three nights he's been so unsettled - on Tuesday he was crying every half hour to 45 minutes. He'd settle back on his own most of the time. Last night I gave him some children's aspirin and he was a little better - until 12:30 when he was just beside himself. DH went in and picked him up and he just pointed to his crib, he wanted to go back in DH said it smelled in the room, so he changed his diaper, but nothing. So I was thinking maybe it was gas and he woke up because it passed? DS does get constipated very often, but he's been going okay lately.
Any ideas? anyone?

DS does that too. We have narrowed it down to very bad gas most of the time. He has dairy and soy allergies. We found out the hard way that the puffs he was eating had soy in them and they made him miserable for weeks until we found out the problem. When was his last bowel movement? Constipation can cause very painful gas...Hope he is ok soon..

Thanks for that. Well, last time we had a constipation problem was nearly two weeks ago. Since then he's been going pretty much at least once a day, sometimes twice. And okay consistency too... He hasn't really been eating anything very different than normal... We're stumped!

When DD does this, we know it's teething.
We then give her motrin at bedtime until we see the tooth cut.

Ethan was sleeping through the night up until the last 2 weeks- he will be 8 months on Monday and I think (and hope) its teething. Hes got 4 bottom teeth and you can feel his top ones coming in and the DR said hes got some back ones coming in. We took him to the DR to make sure it wasnt an ear infection or anything- Its so wierd though because he only does it at night- not during the day. i cant wait until the teething is over

My DD does this too...we think its either constipation or teething or both (ugh!), but we let her CIO unless its REALLY REALLY bad, and then she's back asleep.
Poor girl has some constipation problems

DD woke up screaming and sobbing last night around 10. I believe its her top teeth coming in. She is 8.5 months and usually you dont hear from her once she is out. I rocked her back to sleep and she was out. I hate teething...I feel so bad for her!!!

I'm beginning to think it was something with summer 09 babies! Isn't your DD around the same age? T's 14 months
Thanks everyone. I tried to get him to the doctor to rule out an ear infection, but they were booked up and I only got to speak to a doctor on the phone. She said they wouldn't give him antibiotics unless he was really unwell, high fever, etc (he feels a bit warm and i took his temp once and it was about 100.3), just to treat it with aspirin, etc.
He does have molars coming through, though it looks to me like the worst is through already, but who knows what's going on in there! He's just got two top teeth in the front and I wonder if the two next are coming in - the gum looks a little funny - and the two that he has are so huge, maybe the next ones are pushing and it's painful?!?!

I hope your DS's constipation isn't as bad as my DD's...we're going to see a ped GI about it, only because DH's side of the family has some GI problems (Crohn's disease, etc) It's gotten a bit better though.
I think its the teeth too, from what you describe, I hope it passes soon
DD did this screaming thing for the past month, but recently it hasn't happened, she's been pretty quiet.
I guess at least you know you're not alone

Jack did that for a few weeks (not every night). They were almost like nightmares, he'd wake up screaming and sometimes thinking he was somewhere else. It passed. It's probably a phase. to Tristan.

Re: Screaming in the middle of the night and we don't know what's wrong
I have a summer 09 baby that is doing the same thing. Last night all she did was scream every hour on the hour. I really hope that it is teething. She has been putting her fingers in her mouth the past few days and she hardly does that! Poor kid went to nap 2hrs earlier than usual!!

Gas, teething or ear infection are my best guesses
