Re: Second Thoughts About Circumcision
I guess I have had a different experience. The one I have been around for the past 10 years has never made me gag from any odor.
The foreskin is actuallly there to protect from bacteria in the diaper.
To each their own, but some of these reasons are so far out there.

I don't understand the hygienic issue at all. Men in 3rd world countries aren't circumcised and its not like their members are rotting off....
You clean it like you would clean any other body part.
and as far as the only kid not cut in the class....who's business is it anyway? I was never in a situation where my stuff could be checked out by classmates.
I agree. I don't rember ever getting checked out in the locker room.
boys are very different than us girls!!!!! they talk about their penis like its king and they also brag about the size and they do compare! I have 4 brothers.
about the hygienic thing- it is very dirty, sorry. the foreskin harbors bacteria and veneral diseases as well. Most men do not clean it properly and that is well known ( many medical articles and old posts on here too) that I have read and seen on here. the odor alone would make you gag. Speaking of experience, yes.
Oh, come on!!! Now that's' not true at all! I have dated a few unc'ed men and none of them smelled, I assure you! If fact, as I mentioned, my husband is a RUssian Jew and is not C'ed and I assure you again, he is always clean, fresh and may I say, pleasant in very way! He take good care of himself and takes regular showers, so that's simply just another part of his body, why wouldn't he clean it as well! It is just the matter of basic hygiene. Perhaps the experience you speak of, het just happen to be a man with bad hygiene habits.
I think this matter is more about respecting and following certain tradtiion rather than clean vs. unclean. I am sure there a re plenty of circumsiced men who are not very clean down there simly because they don't bother cleaning it...

Re: Second Thoughts About Circumcision
My DH is uncircumcised and there had never been a bad odor and he had never had any sort of infection. Not to mention I didn't even realize he wasn't until a few months after we were dating and he told me - I hadn't seen it "hiding"
In "ready" mode it looked like all my previous BFs.

OMG, it was the same with me!! I just didn't want to mention it and confuse anyone further but I am glad I wasn;t the only one "confused". In fact, after the first few times we were together, I tried to convince him that he was circumcised and his parents just never told him about it! He was like "Uh, no, believe me, I am not! I would know if I was!"

Re: Second Thoughts About Circumcision

I am not pregnant nor do I have children. I am Jewish and have sat front and center at many a bris. No, it does not "look" like a picnic. But I assure you that the mohels who perform this procedure so hundreds if not thousands each and every year. They are skilled and trained. Many of them come from long lines of family mohels and this is all they do to make a living. Some do many every day. The procedure taakes only a few minutes and then you get bagels and stale danish.
The child is given a piece of gauze with a minimal amount of sweet wine to suck on (NOT ENOUGH TO INTOXICATE - so dont worry) to calm them down. Most of the time, the mothers do go into another room. At a week after giving birth, it is hard to imagine any surgical procedure (and yes circumcision IS surgical) being performed on a child. I don't blame a mother for feeling uneasy about it. And should G-d bless us with a son some day, as much as I would hate to think my child would be in any kind of pain, I know this is what must be done.
The truth is, the child cries not because it hurts, but because he is exposed and cold. I actually once saw a grandfather (who sits with the baby on his lap) get a lil "squirt". It was rather funny.
I also am not pregnant, nor do I have children. But this was very good information.
I also agree that boys should have a circumcision. Not only is it a Jewish tradition, but it is becoming more of a western tradition as well. As for personal hygene, I think it really just depends on the guy, if he is a clean guy then threre won't be any problem, but if he dosen't shower or clean the right way then any guy circumcised or not will have a problem. Just like a lady who dosen't clean the right way!
I honestly think when he turns into a teenager, I'm sure he will feel better having it like the other guys. I think maybe not all, but alot of us would agree that it's more attravcctive this way anyway
Is your son being raised in your husbands faith? If so, then I really think that you should honor the agreegment that you and DH had made and have your son circumsised. If he is not being raised in your DH's faith then you two can talk about it. But for being raised in a faith there are certain things you have to do, even if it might be a little tough. Good luck and don't worry!

Actually this particular statement isn't true. Circumcision is very common in third world nations where some countries even have their females circumcised.

This may be true. HOWEVER! Many of the circumcision procedure that are performed on the women in 3rd world countries are done when they are older and in terrible, dirty conditions. They also preform this on the women so that they do not feel pleasure when engaging in sexual activities. There is a believe an African model (can't recall her name), who had this procedure done to her as a teenager and she tells of the horror. She speaks out often to make people aware of the terrible conditions imposed on some women in these countries.
I don't think comparing a male circumcision to a female one is then same in this sense.

I think we are saying the same thing. Men are kept intact in 3rd world countries, and their members are fine.

While my DH is cut I have been with those who weren't and NEVER EVER was there an odor that made me gag so I think that's a big generalization to make. Also my DH said he's never been in a locker room where they look at each other's penis's so maybe he lived a sheltered life, I don't know.

I'm sorry, but I think every boy should be circumcized.....it's doesn't seem hygenic not to be. Plus, you'll be sparing him from being the one kid in his class that isn't!
That is so not true in this day. Many, many boys are not circumcised. There is nothing unhygenic about an uncircumcised penis unless it is not properly cared for and I'm sure most boys and men that have a foreskin know how to care for it.
You would be surprised.....

Re: Second Thoughts About Circumcision
It seems to me that someone who lacks hygiene, will be unhygienic whether he is circumcised or not. And while it may be a little easier to clean - it probably only takes an additional minute to clean.
I am hoping my child will be somewhat clean either way and I doubt whether or not he is circumcised will have any impact on his overall cleaning habits.
(I'm having a so its not an issue yet )

Re: Second Thoughts About Circumcision
I think that we all have reasons as to why we would or would not have our sons circumcised. Some are religious and some are not. What is important is to remember that parents are entitled to make their own decisions regarding their children.
BUT...
this whole subject got me thinking. Let's assume that many (if not MOST) men are circumcised soon after birth.
Has anyone EVER heard of a boy or a man complain of pain or any sort of psychological trauma because they were circumcised? I have known many men in my lifetime (not all of them biblically). Many of these men are Jewish (some were not and were also circumcised) and not one of them has ever lodged a complaint because or as a result of being circumcised. Just food for thought.

I soooo dont have a reason for doing it or not other then that I am jewish as well and its just what is done. I think for me reading into it would be more heartwrenching then for it to be done. Maybe your dh feels the same way. Kinda like hes getting it done and doesnt want to get hooked into all the what ifs about the procedure.

I agree. It is so unsanitary, if any of you have dated a man who wasnt circumsized you would know what we are talking about. It is also very painful for him as a man to have to go through it.
That's a load of cr@p. DH isn not circumsized and he's extremely clean. I have also been with circumsized men, so yes, I have a terms of comparison. DH has never described any kind of "pain" havin to do with mot being circumsized- physical or emotional. I think that's just plain silly.

Re: Second Thoughts About Circumcision
I am reading this for the first time..and i have to say..who would think a little extra skin would cause so much controversy?? Lol!
In all seriousness...to each their own! I will circumcise DS because well, its always been that way in our families and the fact that he won't remember at all helps me feel better about it. I don't see it as a big deal BUT i can understand others who do.
And i certainly see nothing wrong with an uncircumcised penis! If there were something so wrong about it, men would be born already snipped, right?
The whole theory on the odor too makes me laugh. Lets just say some guys stink regardless of the wholeness of their "member". I sadly experienced a circumcised guy in college who can prove this true. :

Just yesterday we were talking about how wonderful it is that there is no drama on here. Seriously, everyone has an opinion on this matter. I dont think it should be a debate...it is so your choice. Make a good decision based on what works for your own personal family.
