Semen analysis question/fertility specialist
My MD said DH should go for SA. When we looked into it, the only place that does it that accepts our insurance is Stony Brook. Of course, they only do this during business hours so he would have to take a day off from work to do this.
If we are going to end up at a fertility specialist, do they do their own SA anyway? Should I just skip the SA ordered by my MD and just go directly to the specialist? Or does the specialist rely on the results from the previous SA?

Re: Semen analysis question/fertility specialist
If you go to an RE they will want an SA done. They could use one done through your MD, or would recommend he get one done elsewhere.
Either way, he'll have to get one done. Most RE's don't do this on site though, it has to be done at a lab anyway (like Quest)
so what i'm saying is if the only place your insurance covers it Stony Brook, then that's where he'll have to go, and the results would either go to your MD or to an RE

Re: Semen analysis question/fertility specialist
My RE (RSONY) did all the SA and blood work in their offices. I NEVER once had to go off-site for anything the entire time I was under their care.

I got a script from my ob and dh went to north shore hospital in manhasset to drop it off. They take blue cross b/c that is what we have.

Re: Semen analysis question/fertility specialist
we dropped our SA at NSUH labs. however i dont think it matters what doctor you get the script from. if your insurance only covers the test at that one place, its not going to matter who writes the script. even an RE, if its the tests arent covered through them, you will just get billed for it. i would double check that there arent other labs you can use that are covered by your insurance.

Thanks for the info ladies. I just didn't want to be redundant and God forbid we expend any more effort than necessary!
