UPDATE: Question regarding Semen Analysis?

This may seem to be a silly question but DH has an appt at Quest in Syosset today at 1:30 and I am bringing the "specimen" from home. Do I just bring it in and drop it off? They weren't super helpful on the phone and the automated system for making an appt was very vague and didn't give instructions.

Does anyone know?

UPDATE: Sooooooo, We went to Quest in Syosset today for our SA appt...Armed with the "specimen". The lady tells us we can't do it there and have to drop it off at to the main lab (around the corner thank god). She gives me the script my Dr. office faxed over and the directions and sends us on our way. So, we get there and the receptionist tells me that I wasn't supposed to call the automated line (which is the only # the girl gave me when I called the location to make appt). Apparently she was supposed to give me the # to the main lab instead. I tell the receptionist in a highly frustrated tone, that I was not informed of this and that I have the "specimen" sitting between my "girls" under my shirt, so what can she do for me? She asked me to wait while she called the lady who does this test and says someone will be right out to help me. 20 mins later, (after 20 min drive there) no one comes out, so I stand up and ask the lady if she realizes this is a timed test and 40 mins have passed since we collected the sperm. In the end the resulted in us leaving and throwing it away because to much time had past and the lady who was supposed to come out and help us, didn't.

SO, Dh did not have his SA today, and I don't know when he will. So it looks like I won't be starting Clomid anytime soon. GREAT. I just feel like giving up.

i know when my DH dropped it off.. he had to make sure his name was on the cup. and i think he just had to fill something out when he got there.

When my DH went in jersey he had to fill out some questions with medical history, medications taken and what time and the method he used to get the sample.

My DH did it at a lab at LIJ in Manhasset. I believe they have a fertility center. The specimen was collected there so there were no issues with too much time elapsing. I remember that it was hard to find a lab that would do it that we could get to quickly. I don't have the lab info as the whole process was such a blur, but try an online search or maybe call LIJ.

Wow that really sucks! I'm so sorry. Does anyone give a sh*t anymore?

I don't know if your insurance is taken by enzo, but I called them about scheduling DH's SA and they were very clear about the instructions. They do the SA in the Farmingdale lab.

If you have ins. you might want to consider getting it done through an urologist if the labs are too difficult. I can't believe what cr*p you had to deal with, I would have screamed!!

OMG I would definitely complain and find another place to get it done. Thats terrible!!!! I made an appt for Quyest in Farmingdale next Tuesday. Hopefully it will go well. that you can find another place soon and have a better experience!!!

oh my gosh, that is awful!
i would have been so aggravated.. do they understand how much of a pain it is to get a sample, and the time frame you have.

i would definitely try again with another lab.. dont give up

That is BEYOND ridiculous!!!!!!!!!

I would complain to your RE that you did not get an ounce of help, especially after explaining the situation!

Oh and why would you need to have the SA done to begin Clomid? One has nothing to do with the other. My Dr's office didn't need one. I would ask, it never hurts!

I know it's less comfortable then doing it at home, but given the time restraint with these things, can you find a lab that does it right there? Either a urologist or fertility specialist?

Im so sorry you had to go through this...

You can only bring it to the lab...I have the number if you need it...You can only bring it to the lab in Syosset...and they only take it between certain times....

The number to use for SA through Quest to make an appointment is:

1.866.340.2558 - When you call, it will state the "at home" service..Just say you need to make an appointment for an SA and they will transfer you.

The only Quest on Long Island that takes SA is the Syosset lab...The appointment you need to make one week before and it is very diffcult to make an appointment you need to call on Monday for the following week appointment....

When you call they will ask you for an e-mail address for instructions of the SA.
