Semi gloss for walls?
A friend told me to use semi glass for my walls, easier to clean, etc.... I planned on usuing that for the trim, do you think it would be too shiny for the walls???

Re: Semi gloss for walls?
yes that's shiny - plus it'll show any imperfections on the wall.
We used eggshell finish on the walls and semi-gloss for the trim.

Ok that's what I thought. The walls a brand new but even still I think semi glass would be way to shiny. Thanks!

Re: Semi gloss for walls?
semi is supposed to be easier to clean....
i prefer a matte or flat finish on my walls but they are probably the hardest to maintain when the colors are dark (or maybe it's just my paint - but they can get powdery if you rub against the wall).....
i think that they say kitchens and bathrooms are the best rooms to have a glossier wall

Re: Semi gloss for walls?
Semi gloss is best for a bathroom where you have a high humidity concentration. Also good for kitchens where you might have food splatterings.
We're going to do an eggshell finish in our rooms (I don't like flat...so hard to clean and gets roughed up so easily) and then semi gloss for the trip and doors, per everyone's suggestions a few weeks ago.

Yea its a shame people are anti gloss/semi gloss in all rooms because it truly protects the walls (seals it) and allows you to clean them.
We are going to do semi gloss in bathrooms/kitchen and eggshell for everywhere else. I just refuse to use flat since you can not properly clean the walls.

Re: Semi gloss for walls?
yup semi gloss shows all thos imperfections, so I would go with eggshell or stain sometimes they call it. It's easy to clean and looks nice. Use the semi gloss for trim, bathroom and kitchen. Actually they have paints just for Kitchen & Bath. I think it has something in the paint for mold and mildew.

Re: Semi gloss for walls?
if you were to paint over the semi-gloss down the line you would need primer or a paint with primer in it... semi-gloss does not hold paint well and requires many coats..... basically, its a PITA to paint over.
My kitchen was painted with semi-gloss and it was such a pain to paint... it was peeling and very shadowy and needed quite a few coats. I would stick with eggshell or matte.

Re: Semi gloss for walls?
We used flat on every wall - kitchen and bathroom included.
It was a special SW paint that is washable (the kitchen and bath).
It's true - the walls are a PITA to clean but we have no kids or animals so it's not an issue for us.
