Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
My DD's birthday is October 6th. I will be sending her to kindergarten when she is 4 years old. I think she is a smart cookie and will be ready for it. My younger DD's birthday is December 18th. Unfortunately, unless I send her to a private school for kindergarten that allows all December birthdays, she'll be going at 5 years old and will be 2 years apart from her sister in school. Sooo not happy about that!

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
I see no reason why I wouldn't send her when she should go. I am a Sept birthday and never had a problem.

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
As a teacher I always feel like it's better to send them younger than stay where they are. I feel like if they are not ready for first grade then repeat k. It's easier to repast the younger grade than an older grade. I feel like they gain and grow so much during that time. I Personally would not hold back.

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
DD # 1 was born on 10/22 - i am not holding her back. She will be going to Kindergarten in September. We spoke to her teacher throughout the year and she told us she's ready!

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
DS is an early September baby, I won't be holding him back. I did just fine as one of the younger ones in my class (November).

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
DS was born in early November and I didn't keep him back, he is doing awesome in kindergarten! It's so individual though, if I felt he wasn't ready I would have held him.

My birthday is 10/7. I was one of the youngest in my grade. It was hard (or so I was told) but going to college at 17 was pretty cool
ITA - I am a December baby and was 17 when I went to college. It did kinda suck not turning 21 until finals week 1st semester of senior year but it really didn't matter!

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
I wish that he was not going to be one of the youngest & smallest but at this point I cannot see holding him back. He's not even 4 yet and I think he could hold his own in a Kindergarten class right now if he had to. Kindergarten is still a year and a half away and I cannot even imagine waiting 2 and a half years for him to start.

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
That's correct. If it makes you feel any better I am a late Nov baby and never had any problem being one of the youngest in my class.

Yes.
ofcourse since she is the youngest, she will need to make friends with one of the january birthdays so she has someone to drive her around senior year

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
Originally I thought we might wait an extra year with my DD (her bday is 9/19) however, now I am 100% positive she will be going to Kindergarten as she's turning 5. In fact, my concern now is the possibility that she will be bored in Kindergarten. She's already doing A LOT of what is taught in Kindergarten (I taught Kindergarten so I know) in terms of pre-reading skills, phonics, letter recognition, numbers and counting, etc and she's not even 3! I guess being a teacher (now SAHM) and being with her all day she's learned a lot at an early age!

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
My school's cutoff is 9/1 and DD was born on 9/7. I have zero interest in pushing her to go before the cut off.. I see no advantage (other than financial) to her being the youngest in her class.

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
DD will be 4 in November. She is eligible for full time Pre-K in September and heck yeah I enrolled her. Save me some $$ and she will get used to being in school earlier.

Re: Sep/Oct Kids - Kindergarten?
My DD is 10/31 and just finishing kindergarten. She had no problems whatsoever academically or socially. My DS is 10/12 and I have no plans of holding him back.
