Re: separation anxiety in an 11 week old
I'm not sure if it can happen this early, but it seems like it may when DC spends almost ALL the time with you. My husband works crazy hours, so DS is mostly used to being with me at all times. This morning I left him in his bouncy for a few minutes to eat breakfast in the next room and he began crying after a few minutes.....if I'm in the same room he can stay there for awhile....interesting!! I think I'm going to make it a point to separate myself from DS for a few minutes at a time and build it up to longer stretches....

I don't know if it's separation anxiety, but DS is the same way. He wants me to hold him 24/7. I put him in the bouncer in the bathroom when I shower. He usually cries, but tends to calm down a little when he can see me. If I move away to do something and he can't see me, he starts crying again. He'll also cry if he's next to me though and not in my arms or lap.

Re: separation anxiety in an 11 week old
Does it happen when you leave the baby with someone else? My DD wanted to be held at all times for the first three months. That meant I couldn't leave the room without her crying either. But, she would let anyone hold her - even someone she just met. Thats not really separation anxiety - its just the baby needing to be held. The actual separation anxiety where she would be sad when I left and she wanted only me didn't start until she was 6 or 7 months old.

No, she doesn't need to be held, she can be in her bouncy seat, swing etc..she just needs me to be around, if i leave the room for a minute she starts crying

Re: separation anxiety in an 11 week old
Jen, Kaylie started separation anxiety very early and I couldn't believe it but it was true. She was around 12 weeks old. My parents were going to babysit while dh and I went to a wedding and when I went to put my coat on to leave she instantly started crying. I was in shock as were my parents. Apparently when we got in the car to leave (and of course I second guessed going/cried a little as dh floored on the gas to leave lol) my parents said she stared at the door waiting for me to come back in but they said after a while they got her entertained and she was fine.
I guess it was early but possible!
eta: sahm and dh works VERY crazy hrs, so dd is in fact with me ALL of the time....so pp might just be on to something with early separation anxiety and link to being with the same parent for long periods of time
