Seriously, are we still immune or blind to the dangers

of driving drunk?

two weeks ago, a woman that I know (and a very close friend of a family members) was almost RIPPED IN HALF when she was thrown...NOT from then windshield...but from the freaking SUN ROOF of a car as it flipped over multple times. she broke her clavicle, ribs, arm and has NO FRONT TEETH. and she was LUCKY.

and guess what, she thought she was too drunk to drive...so she let her sister, who was DRUNKER than she was.

and guess what, drunk sister sustained minor injuries and is in PRISON.

It's just astounding to me. with so much proven about the impairment from a LOW level of alcohol, that people still take the risk.

Please DON"T!

You're so right. I don't get why anyone would plan to drive to go out somewhere where they may have a few drinks.

It saddens me to hear all these horrible stories... Chat Icon

I am amazed at how many people say they will drive after having a drink or two. The reality is that if you are going to drive, you should not have a drink at all. I know, I know... the time you wait, blah, blah blah... It's just something to think about.

That's awful!
The other day we went out and I had one pina colada. I don't normally drink and felt a little loopy so I didn't drive even though we were only a few blocks away.

I don't drink but my DH does socially. I always drive when he drinks. There have been times when he stops and then by the time we leave he says he is fine and he seems fine too so I will let him drive, until I saw that Oprah episode. Now whenever he drinks even a little I drive. You can never be too careful.

That's horrible.

You have to be so selfish to drive drunk. Her sister deserves to be in prison now.

That is horrible. Glad they are okay. It sounds like she wasn't wearing her seatbelt if she was thrown from the car. Another stupid move.

she was actually laying down, sleeping. the whole thing was a stupid move.

I am happy that they didn't harm anyone else but themselves.

I don't have pity for people that are so careless with their lives or with anyone elses....friend or not. I just can't.

I was thinking the same thing about the seatbelt. She's lucky she's alive.

wait- so it's ok to be so drunk that you ask your drunker sister to drive?

I think they both should be in trouble

that's a terrible position to put your sister in- neither are innocent

and if I made my sister drive drunk b/c I was too drunk to drive her and she was in jail- I would not be able to live with myself

well, she almost had the choice of "living with herself" taken away from her.
I guess since one is in jail and the other is in intensive care with permanent injuries, they are about even, don't you think.

she was so drunk she didn't realize that her sister was drunk...just goes to show you how poor your perception is while under the influence.

I think you're putting words in my mouth. FTR, I didn't say anything either way about the one who wasn't driving. It was a horrible accident and the one who drove should be in prison. I didn't comment on the one who didn't drive. I think the whole situation is tragic.
