well, she almost had the choice of "living with herself" taken away from her. I guess since one is in jail and the other is in intensive care with permanent injuries, they are about even, don't you think.
she was so drunk she didn't realize that her sister was drunk...just goes to show you how poor your perception is while under the influence.
I guess it's about even- her injuries sound like they are from not wearing a seat belt- had she had one on- she would not have gotten thrown from the car- drunk or not

you are absolutely right. I said before, she was laying down, sleeping.
compounded stupidity. but I am not sure where you are going with it?

I'm not going anywhere with it- I think they both mad a terrible mistake and will pay dearly for it for the rest of there lives
I don't understand how people go out and get that drunk and think they should drive- I am assuming they are not young either

omg - this is why I have taken to drinking at home and at my neighbors'!
's for your poor friend!!!!!!
ditto. DH & I rarely go out. We drink at home with friends and if they are drinking too much they are fine with crashing on our couch or daybed. Plus, we save mucho $$

So many times when I was younger, I would drive home from our local watering hole, completely obliterated.
I can't believe I even did it then, let alone think of doing it now.
But IMO, 1 or 2 with dinner doesn't equal anything to get crazy over.

there is no excuse for drunk driving....get a cab, have a designated driver, sleep over. Its amazing that with so many tragic stories people still drive drunk. Unfortunately, I think it will always be a problem.

ITA Now that we are in the city drinking and driving is not a personal issue for us, bc we cab it or take mass transportation. I think our lives would be totally different had we had to think about social responsibility each time we went out with friends.
Sorry what happened to your friend.

omg how horrible.
I can imagine the guilt that the other sister feels, sadly I hope they learn from this.
For your friend.

Re: Seriously, are we still immune or blind to the dangers
i think everyone's forgetting why people drive drunk in the first place- because their DRUNK! They can't make rationale decisions for themselves. Those who don't get trashed know that even a few drinks will impair your ability and decide not to drive, but when your trashed you think your invinsible. Drinking in that excess is dangerous in general because who knows what decisions you'll make if noone is looking out for you (i.e. get in a car with someone drunk). It's sad there was noone to realize how drunnk they were and try to stop them. I'm a big keys grabber!
