Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
My daughter is up all night long..she used to sleep through the night fine and now for the last month and a half, she is up all night long...she will wake screaming sometimes, i upped her baby food intake and she didnt seem hungry last night as she didnt really take a bottle but seriously, this is awful and I am so tired... Are there any hidden medical reasons possibly? She had GERD but i thought that went away as she doesnt spit up..i have started giving her a little Axid to see if it helps... Her bottom teeth have come in..could this be that her teething process is horrible?!

could be a few things. i would consider teething even if she has some on her bottom-could be the top ones. have you tried tylenol? and then it could be a growth spurt or just her starting to look for you to comfort her. when my DD would do this i would kind of test her-if i held her in my arms and she seemed totally fine but just wanted me then i knew she was not in pain and needed to get herself to sleep. if i held her and she STILL seemed in pain or restless then i knew she wasn't just looking for me so i would occasionally give her tylenol and hold her longer. i did let her CIO at this age but that it is a totally personal decision. if she seems ok i would see if that works. or this might just be a tiny bump in the road. if it becomes a major habit then i would resort to CIO as long as she's not in pain.

Do you go in and pick her up? does she stop crying once she's picked up?

We just went through this a wekk or so ago. I ended up CIO for 1 night and he got the point. He is back to sleeping through the night. I also started giving him a bath before bed and this seems to have helped. For DS I know it was b/c he was having feeding issues again, but it could be teething or the reflux. GL!

Could def be teething. Try a little tylenol before bed and see if that helps. Teething is so hard to pinpoint so we would give DS tylenol before bed and if he STTN we knew that was it.

I have tried motrin, pretty much everything and she still wakes up crying so much all night long...when i hold her she seems ok, it is hard to settle her and then she will doze in my arms, i put her back down and 45 minutes later she wakes crying again! It is so strange..I wonder if they go through separation anxiety at this age?

Well if she doses off once you're holding her, she's not hungry. If the motrin isn't working, it doesn't sound like it's teething.
At this age (even before it for ds), he was going through some separation anxiety and we had to do CIO. He would wake 5 times a night and it was just for comfort.
Sounds like your dd is going through the same thing.

Re: Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
ear infection? constipation? those are the 2 reasons my DC don't sleep well.
Both my DC get ear infections with no fever so not sleeping was really the only sign they'd give me to let me know something was wrong.
My DS was going #2 but apparently not enough - he was backed up and I had no idea since he'd do some. It was weird, but he was constipated for over a month and I had no idea. Once we figured it out he started sleeping again. Is your DC going regularly? Is it mushy? My DS' wasn't mushy but not hard balls either. Apparently it was too hard for his little body to get out. Just a thought.

DS is 8 months old tomorrow and is doing exactly this. I was actually going to post this morning about it. It is driving me nuts. He was up at 1:17 this morning doing this. He wakes up crying, I go in to tell him he is fine, give pacifier. He pulls out and throws it. I crawl on hands and knees in the dark, find it behind the crib. Pick him up to comfort him, he cuddles into me and falls asleep. I get him to where he is snoring. I put him down, go back to my room, put my head down to sleep for 30 minutes, then hear him crying again. Repeat this until 4:10 am when I give up and bring him in my bed to sleep in my arms.

Re: Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
DD is going through the same thing... she is 4 months though. I was going to post this question as well. I mentioned it to my ped at her appt. last week and he said that when babies are teething they awake during their light sleep phase easily...
Is your DC awake (eyes open) when you go in? My DD seems to wake herself up by flailing her arms or legs, but she is still sort of sleeping.
Good luck!!!

Teething is my initial thought. My son also did something similar because of reflux issues.

Re: Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
Emerson is just about 9 months and after MONTHS and MONTHS of sleeping perfectly though the night she started waking up constantly. I refused to feed her because it's a habit I did not want to start. Also, she eats plenty during the day. She also, since birth, ALWAYS needed to fall asleep in my arms or on my chest before I put her down for the night or naps.
I HAVE THE "MAGIC" SOLUTION!!!
A few days ago I just had enough of the constant waking, the holding, the rocking so..............I flipped her on her tummy!!! I patted her back gently and shushed her. She was dead asleep in less than 5 min. and has never slept so soundly in her life. Since that first time all I do now for bedtime and for naps is put her in the crib, give her the little blankie she likes to rub in her one hand, and she pops her thumb in her mouth (which she has done since birth to fall asleep) and falls alseep ON HER OWN in less than 5 and STAYS asleep all night and for a good amount of time for naps! I don't even have to pat her at all now. It's absolutely amazing to me!! I think being on their tummies is more of a comfort, they feel snuggled and cozy and after 6 months the risk of SIDS drops off significantly. In fact 90% of cases occur before 6 months of age and of that 90% more often than not it occurs within the first 2-4 months of life.
So my advice..........flip her over and see what happens. If it's not teething and it's not food sleeping on her tummy may be your answer. It was a GODSEND for me!! Good luck!!
EDIT - CIO did nothing to help our situation, it just made it worse.

Re: Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
BTW............I also read that as babies get older (7'ish months and on) they start to have recall of vivid images when they sleep which can sometimes lead them to stir at night and wake up upset. I guess it would be equal to an adult nightmare. I found that interesting and it would account for sudden wake-ups and fits during the night.

Re: Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
Kameron rolls right onto her tummy at night when i put her down and sleeps that way, she refuses to sleep on her back...lol! They do sleep better this way, that i can say!!!! Her thing is she rolls constantly at night to get comfortable too...I feel so much better to know maybe we are all going through a developmental period too? She moves her bowels like crazy, lol...way to go Gerber fruits! I took her in recently again bc i thought it might be an ear infection but the doc said, no, teething...she just got both bottom teeth...i wonder if it is going to be a long awful process for her...well, please post if any of you have success because wow, this is exhausting!!!! P.S. i crawl in the room at night too..she is crafty, she peeks through the bumpers and looks for me!!!

Re: Seriously up every hour-what are the main reasons a 6 month old would do this?
I think I figured out why DS is waking up at night!!!
Last night we forgot to put his nightlight on in his room. He slept through the night!!! I think that he likes to be in our room at night (when I finally give up) is because it is pitch dark.
I'm trying this again tonight, if it works, I will be so flippin' happy!!!!!!!!
