Ive had anxiety on and off for years. Saw a counselor but didnt really help me much. I refuse to medicate myself. My job is stressing me severely but i wont go, not feasable at thsi moment. I feel like im going to have a nervous breakdown. Dh is very supportive. Anyone go through something like this? I just needed to get it off my chest

Re: severe anxiety
Have you considered biofeedback training? I also find that exercise really helps me to manage my stress and anxiety.

Re: severe anxiety
Yes. I have had anxiety issues for years. Have even gone to the hospital not knowing what was wrong, to find out I was having an anxiety attack. I wake up every.single.morning with severe anxiety that lasts for about 1/2 hour. I pretty much just try to talk myself down and "go with it". My mom has anxiety issues too and she taught me not to fight it, that will only make it worse. I hope that makes some kind of sense. You're not alone

Re: severe anxiety
Severe anxiety is a medical condition that can have something to do with the level of serotonin in your body.
Medication helps bring it to a point of balance. Most of the time medication is short term.
If you don't want to try medication how about trying supplements?
I noticed that my severe anxiety was much better after trying zoloft and lexapro.
You also could try a combo of meds and therapy perhaps with a different therapist.
I suffer from this and fought medication forever. I was so glad I relented. It made a world of difference.
Now I take xanax every now and then

same thing happens to me. I've been experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks for 4 years now. It runs in my family as my mom has lived with it since she was 24 years old.
I take Xanax on and off when I'm having a panic attack (mine can last up to 3 hours...no joke).
I would highly recommend you read "Overcoming Panic Disorder". It is the ONLY non-medication that helped me through when I was at my worst. It's written by a doctor and it's personal accounts of women who suffer from anxiety and how they overcome it. It's inspiring and it really helps you to understand WHY we have anxiety and how it affects us.

Re: severe anxiety
Theres nothing wrong with taking medication for anxiety. It will change your life. I know it did for me! And I still feel like me. It's a medical condition. Think about your daily quality of life.

Re: severe anxiety
I too have developed severe anxiety. Last March I actually had to go to the hospital because I didn't know what was wrong with me..ended up my first panic attack. After trying to get over it on my own I started taking Lexapro. It took awhile for it to work but it stopped the panic attacks. It also helped me focus more on real life and not nonsense worring. I still have my days but it's nothing compared to months ago. I also started reading a good book called, You are not your brain. It really helped put perspective on what was going on with me. GL, and know you are def. not alone.
