OMG, that is SO freakin' cute!!

This is my Mazi - he loves string beans so much. I was making them for dinner and DH called me away for a second, Mazi jumped up on the counter and pushed them onto the floor so he could get them.


I love the look on his face here, like "What is she doing to me?"

Thanks Ladies - Mazi is a Savannah Cat. It is a fairly new breed, it started in the late 80's. Bengals were started in 1973 by Jean Mills in an effort to understand Feline Leukemia, because Asian Leopards, which the domestic Bengal cat is descended from, are immune to it. When she crossed the 2, the resulting kittens were so sweet and adorable she thought it could serve several purposes. It could cut down on the illegal exotic pet trade because you could own a domestic cat that looked exotic, and also, she thought it might help with the fur trade, because if people owned cats with these coats, maybe they wouldn't wear them, just as we don't eat dogs here because we associate them with pets. Breeders organized and got Bengals recognized as an actual breed. Very similar story with Savannahs. These 2 breeds have cut down on exotic ownership. So many people come up to us at the shows and say “I was going to get a Serval but I got a Savannah instead!” Which is great news, because 99.9% of exotic owners have NO idea what they’re getting into. Savannahs are completely domestic, use a litter box, eat regular cat food and go to a regular vet, unlike exotics.

Savannahs are descended from the African Serval. It is a real TICA recognized registered breed, just like Bengals (or Persians or Siamese) that participates in cat shows and has a breed standard and is in cat fancy magazine and all that - it's not just a 'designer cat'
