She wont stop crying and I am worried
DD has been having issues with taking a bottle. Finally last night she drank Goodstart out of Playtex drop ins. However she is still crying and the only way she sleeps is if I hold her. I tried the swing, the papasan, her bouncer and NOTHING is helping her sleep but me holding her. If shes up she cries....Her ped doesnt see the problem b/c when we were there she was calm with him So of course he doesnt think its colic---what do uou think?

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
My opinion...
If YOU think something is wrong then something is wrong. Have you been trying different formulas? Different Bottles? Does she spit up after eating or show any signs of reflux? Is she producing a good number of wet diapers? Is her tummy bloated?
Sorry for all the questions...this was my list when trying to figure out what was wrong with DS.

Def trust your mommy gut
Keep going back to the doc
My doc kept telling me some fussiness is normal, baby eczema normal, lots of spitting up normal. My poor baby was screaming in pain 3/4's of the day. 4-6 weeks later my youngest was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and acid reflux.
Since she's been on Neocate and prevacid she's a total different happy baby!

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
DS is the same way. But our dr doesn't see it either. We did describe it and she said it does sound like colic. What can be done? Nothing really. It stinks because I can't get anything done around the house and then I feel like I'm letting DH down when he gets home from work.
Have you tried the baby bjorn? DS is hot/cold with that, so sometimes it works. My nephew absolutely loves being against SIL with that hammock thing too. Have you tried those?

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
Ladies thanks for quick responses We took her off Neosure(preemie formula) she was spitting up alot after a bottle and refusing the bottles during the feedings (changed bottles/nipples a million times )-prefered the breast but would spit up a little during BF, still cried like crazy, was gassy too so I called the Dr. They tested her stool-no blood present for milk allergy. They had us change formula to similac sensitive and gave Zantac which she drank some but still fussy, gassy and not taking full feedings. We went again yesterday to the ped and she gained 7 oz since he last saw her on Sat-up to 8pd 9oz. She was calm when he held her for all of 2 mins He doesnt think its reflux cause she is gaining, doesnt think colic cause she is sleeping through the night so his solution was switching her to Goodstart which she took late last night and finished the bottles-was drowsy due to getting shots and slept thru the night as usual but at 6am, 9am and 12pm feedings it was back to screaming unless i held her. She will sleep in the baby bjorn-which does work Kelly but she has to go to childcare starting Nov 19th so i am worried.
Thanks for listening-I feel like I should know this stuff since she is #2.

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
There was a time period where Jack WOULD NOT stop crying and I couldn't put him down at all. It turns out - he wasn't sleeping as much as he needed to - and because I couldn't put him down he wouldn't really fall asleep. I don't know if this is the same prob. with your DD but once I started reading all the sleeping books - and got him into a routine - my world changed in a matter of days!

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
Both my girls have reflux, we just weaned my 17 month old last month and she still gained weight, my youngest has reflux too and still gains weight normally. That's doesn't make sense to me..
Does she cry when you put her down? Arch her back? Pull off during feedings? Scream after she spits up? Scream and cry for no apparent reason?
DO you swaddle?
My youngest LOVES the swaddle, the only way she'll sleep through the night right now. She was just like your DD, she would only sleep in our arms.
I'd keep going back to you get some answers, if not def go to a different PED to get a second opinion.
Trust your gut
Def sounds like something is wrong.
Hope she feels better soon

Same here...Lucas was gaining weight but the doctor agreed that the other syptoms indicated reflux. Turns out he was forcing whatever came up back down so his throat had the acid come up and then back down

Yes to all--Does she cry when you put her down? Arch her back? Pull off during feedings? Scream after she spits up? Scream and cry for no apparent reason?
His reasoning is that she gained 7 oz in a few days so she mus tnot be spitting up as much as I think I LUV his bedside manner but I also think I may need to see his more experienced Ped partner because the symptoms sound like Colic or Reflux issues with a helping of fussy newborn

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
I had the same problem with DS when he was a few months old it was really bad gas. If I held him and his legs dangled the gas didn't hurt-Mylicon and Dr Browns bottles saved us! Good luck I know it is so hard to hear them upset for so long!

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
Poor you and baby
I think it's prob reflux
is she still on the zantac? I was told it can take up to a week for it to show signs of improvement. if no sign of improvement after a week or so, that's when my girls were put on Prevacid and made a whole world of difference.

He took her off it yesterday since we didnt see a difference-all he focused on was her impressive weight gain I swaddled her and she slept for a few minutes but I just had to run out and get her sister from school in this weather so shes up and here in my lap swaddled and nursing so I'll let you know if the swaddling made a difference. I did it tighter than usual so she cant get out-blankie jail lol

There is also the possibility that she just wants to be held! Remember she spent 9 months close to you, its quite a shock to be out in the big world! If she is quite and comfortable being held, it isn't colic -- colic babies scream no matter what.

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
That was my life from the time DS was 2.5 weeks to 8 weeks old. Everyday from 9am to 9pm. I thought I was the worst mother. He refused to be laying down flat. I had to hold him ALL DAY LONG. I even had to wait for DH to come home to take a shower.
I thought he was hungry all the time. I realized later on (several later... ) that it was gas and that he was fighting sleep.
I would talk to the ped to make sure it's nothing wrong. The ped could do a poopie sample to make sure she is not allergic to the formula.

Did the stool sample and there were no blood particles so she is fine...
I have her swaddled and she is still sleeping-I put her on her Boppy Newborn Lounger-she is making little grunts but still sleeping....

Me too-we dropped it off tuesday and they called back soon after. I was scared cause as a preemie she needs the calories in milk based formulas.

DD was like this also...as soon as we made the switch to soy formula, she was better. I think it was gas, DH thinks it was a milk alergy.

Re: She wont stop crying and I am worried
Have you tried feeding her sitting up? There are a set of preemie twins in my building with the same issues and the dr. suggested feeding them sitting up and using a newborn nipple instead of the fast flow.
Also, Gripe Water is wonderful! It is made of ginger and fennel and helps move gas along! You can mix it in the formula or give it straight up!
The other thing I noticed is that my twins like the ready to feed formula better then the powder. It is thicker and they seem to keep almost all of it down!
