Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
In the winter/spring/fall I lock the doors and return the cart. On a hot summer day I just push the cart out of the way and get the car started. I'm not leaving him in a hot car. No way.

Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
Having seen the damage a run away cart can do to a car or have to move a cart in order to park my car, I can see why someone would be annoyed to see a cart left in between cars or in empty spots. I try to help out when I see someone in a bind but it's not always feasible.

Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
better than leaving the kids in a super hot car......
however best would be to take the kids and walk with them to return the cart then load them up in the car..... if its a windy day and you just release your cart and it then goes and rolls iinto another car and makes damage you might be held liable for it....

I always try to park next to the cart area but when I can't I don't walk that far from my kids. Especially in the heat like that. You did the right thing.

had that issue yesterday...kept kids in cart while i loaded car..pushed them in empty cart to cart return, then we walked to car.
i swear i would get shot if i did not return a cart around here. they have zero tolerance.
Thats the difference between NY and NC. I don't really think anyone gives a crap here where you put the cart. For the record, I'd do the same. i have a HUGE dent in my car from someone who couldn't be bothered to return a cart. even before then i had a zero tolerance for it, and i'm from around here. i have taken my carts back with two kids in the rain! and if i see an older person struggling, i usually return the carts for them.
i return my carts. if there is bad weather involved the worst i will do is make sure it is secured. i will never leave the cart open in a spot where it can roll. never.

Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
I dont put the cart back if I cant. Dont even think twice about it. My DDs safety is all that matters. Not my job to put the cart back if I cant. It's courteous to do it, but not an obligation.

Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
Same thing as you. I 99% of the time return it and its a pet peeve of mine for those who dont, In that situation though, umm, yeah an exception is FINE. I'd have rolled down the window and told her God hates Judgers though. LOL

Shame on her! Don't worry about it.
I try to park near the cart thing. If I can't, I leave the cart. I like to think of it as saving the cart person's job... Not a bad thing IMHO.

Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
When we get to the car I usually turn the car on, put the bags in the trunk, and then walk back to the cart corral with the kids in the cart. Then I walk/carry them back to the car with me. I have a keyless entry so when I return the cart, I lock the car when it is running.
There is nothing wrong with what you did.

Re: Shopping Carts and Little Ones in Car
YOur child's safety trumps courtesies. I usually park near a corral but if I can't and it is too far then I leave the cart tucked between rows so it is not in the way. I also have a remote starter so I will leave the car running once they are in.

Dumb b!tch! So it's shameful to not put your cart away, but not shameful to leave your kids in a hot car? She should mind her own effing business.
I am not sure I'd be able to hold my tongue- but I have a lot of rage these days!

You did the right thing. I usually return the cart too but if I were in your situation I would have done exactly as you did. Probably would have given the woman the finger as I drove away too And the last statement is why I love you.....I would have done the same...and to the OP you did the right thing. I would have smiled and waved at her after giving her said finger.

This is what I do.. I also ut my kids into the car first (I turn the car on and roll down the windows and then shut it off) and then load the car with groceries.
