Re: Shopping for food?
I find that the Shop Rite in Plainview (where I used to live has the best prices) Now I know why people from many other towns would shop there.
Since moving to East Northport, I am shocked to see how much more expensive the same exact items are in Stop and Shop... seriously, one week Soy milk was $2.89 at Shop Rite and it was $4.29 at Stop and Shop. I sound like an old man when I got there complaining about the prices.
I try to do a run when I visit my Dad as much as possible.
For meats and paper products... Costco Cereal, vitamins and a few other things... Trader Joes Produce.... Stop and Shop or Guinta's Meat Farms

Re: Shopping for food?
I do a lot of shopping at Costco. They always have cool new items and the food is good quailty.
Also, there's a great supermarket in Plainview, called Fairway. They have high quality, organic and exotic foods you cannot find in ordinary supermarkets.

I shop at Fairway for my organics, as they usually have the best prices, but I also shop at Shop Rite since theyhave been expanding their organic selection as well.

It depends on what they have that week. That apples were outrageous, but the carrots, kiwis, potatoes & tomatoes were actually better than Fairway. Their selection of Morningstar products (veggie burgers & fake bacon & stuff) is better at Shop Rite as well. And they have sales more frequently I find. I check out the Shop Rite circular 1st to see what is on sale. They list the organics as "Live Right" specials.
