Re: Should HS Age kids be dong their own laundry?
My one 12 year old who is on the Autism spectrum does the laundry. If only I get him to fold and put it away. He knows what laundry is gentle cycle, vs. normal, and knows how much soap to put in, so I think it is a good skill to teach young.

I did not do laundry until I went away to college--I love my parents but a lot of the things they did boggles my mind. My kids will be doing their laundry at 12ish maybe sooner, DD is 4 and helps me now. DS is 7 does chores as well.
Agreed. My husband is an only child and learned to do nothing growing up. No laundry, dishes, cooking -- nada! Now he is useless I am going to make sure my kids do it all!

Re: Should HS Age kids be dong their own laundry?
I do want to add that I'm pretty sure my DH never did laundry growing up or any real household chores and he is now a WAY WAY better housekeeper than I am. He does laundry, cooks, cleans, does dishes. He is way way better than me at any of that stuff.
I did chores around the house as a kid and hated it so much that I rebelled once I got my own place and I NEVER want to clean or do anything to be honest. I am lazy as shit and I will admit that.
I know that goes against the old stereotype that women are so neat and clean and work like dogs and do EVERYTHING around the house and men are lazy and stupid and do nothing but lay around and make messes, but it's the truth in our house.
So I guess what I am saying is it's doesn't always translate to how you will be as an adult.

LOL. My DH's mom did everything for him. If I want him to do anything, I need to prompt him, which makes me feel like a manager who is micromanaging him.
With that said, my 4 year old DS helps me with chores - folding clothes, putting clothes in hamper, clearing the dinner table, putting away the dishes, etc - every single day. By the time he is in HS, he will definitely be doing chores independently.

As I never did laundry until I was married with 2 kids and in a house - I would say do what works for your family.
