Should I be concerned? Re: EBF 2 wk old dirty diapers...

Sorry if this is tmi!

My EBF 2 wk old hasn't had a dirty diaper in over 36 hrs. She has had a ton of wet diapers - at least 9 every day but no dirty diapers. She is EBF and I haven't started pumping yet so I have no idea how much she is getting but I do feed her on demand. Her last dirty diaper was enormous and burst through the diaper and ruined her clothes - if that makes a difference. Should I be concerned she isn't getting enough to eat? Should I call the ped? TIA!

They are supposed to have 8-10 dirty diapers at this point....I would call the ped...even if it is after hours....is the baby spitting up alot or have a hard feeling tummy?
If shes peeing I would think shes getting enough but you want to be sure there is no intestinal blockage.

My Dr actually told me they can go up to 4 days without poop. Is she uncomfortable? If so I would do the thermometer trick. If that doesn't workj call the ped and they may tell you to try a suppository

My LC said that BF babies can either go 10 times a day (which my 7 week DD does) or once every couple of days. She told me that her daughter used to only poop on tuesdays and saturdays and when she pooped on those days....it was out of control messy and lots of it. I would definitely call your dr. to make sure...but i think its normal.

it's totally normal for an EBF baby to go a few days without pooping. my friend's daughter only went once every 10 days! as long as she's not uncomfortable, i wouldn't worry.

I would call the ped...for the first 2-3 months they should have a dirty diaper almost every change. After that they can go days without pooping, but at this point I would be concerned.

Thanks ladies for all the responses. Shortly after I typed this she went - and, again, it was an enormous explosive situation that required a bath It was like an entire days worth X10

I think I will call the ped on Monday if this pattern continues b/c I'm not sure what is normal and it seems I am getting a bunch of different responses even on here! My DS was much more "regular" he pooped all day long so that is why I was worried.
