Should I be concerned? (Sleep related)

So DD is generally a good sleeper. At 8 weeks, she still sleeps ALOT which I'm assuming is okay.

I'm concerned about her sleeping from last night:

She got a bath at 5:30 last night after her afternoon nap.

Bottle at 6:00
Bedtime at 7:00 (she probably fell asleep around 7:30ish)

Usually she would be up again anywhere between 10-11 for another bottle. But she didn't. Instead she slept until 1:40am!

I was afraid because she slept for 6 straight hours that she wouldn't go back to sleep, but she did and slept until 7am this morning. Woke up at 7, ate, and then went back to sleep about 8:15. I expected her to wake for another bottle and for the day at 10-10:30, but right now at 11:00am she is still sound asleep.

Should I be concerned by these long stretches of sleep? She usually doesn't do this. Should I wake her up? (I know.. Never wake a sleeping baby!), but I'm afraid that she won't sleep tonight!

TIA!

Nope-my boys still have days when they sleep 20 hours or so. maybe shes having a growth spurt. These are my kids usual schedule:

6-6:30 bottle
Sleep until 8:30-9:30 depending
bottle
play
sleep around 11-11:30
1-1:30
bottle
play
3:30-4:30-bottle sleep
6:45 Bottle, BED
12:30 Bottle and back to sleep

Definitely don't be concerned unless she has other issues(fussiness, fever etc)

I am reading Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child and he says it will not make them sleep less if they sleep durig the day. that is an old wives tale. They need lots of sleep.

Don't be concerned, enjoy itChat Icon

Also, I really believe that on these gross rainy days, babies want to sleep just like grown ups do (and it could be a growth spurt too!!)

Take a nap or a nice shower or watch some tv while she sleepChat Icon

at 8 weeks DS was sleeping through the night... definitely not something to worry about! it could be a growth spurt or she could just be ready to go longer between feedings.

Enjoy it!! At 8 weeks my DS slept from 7pm-7am! And then would be down for a nap by 9. Babies need a lot of sleep!

Alexa has been sleeping through the night since 6 1/2 weeks. Her last bottle is at 11:30-12 (when we go to bed) and then she wakes between 6-7 am. She goes for long stretches during the day too. Every since I put her on 6oz she has been doing this.

If you want her to sleep later in the morning. Maybe try pushing her bedtime routine later a little bit.

Don't be concerned, be happy. I think every mom is concerned the first night their dc sleeps longer. Hopefully she does it again tonight and you can enjoy it.
DS slept 8 hours straight at that age. The dr laughed when I asked if something was wrong. He told me that is what every mom wants.

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping she is setting herself up to start sleeping through the night.

Normally, she eats between 6pm-7pm, then again around 11pm. That's really her bedtime bottle. The nights she gets a bath, is before that 6/7 bottle. That's why we were really surprised last night that she didn't get up at 11pm to eat and got up at 1:40 instead.

Nope! Enjoy it - she's getting used to going longer periods in between food! Get some much needed rest! Chat Icon
