Should I jump on it or pass?? xx post

This is on the new Oasis of the Seas. It will be in 2 years. As discussed in another thread...I would have to take the kids out of school 4 days (Columbus Day week). They will be in 2nd and 7th grade by then.
The total price for 4 (without airfare that I can get on my own MUCH cheaper), inside room (much larger than NCL's), all taxes, etc. $3,000.
It goes to Nassau, Bahamas (not the best place but we could do the beach and some market shopping), St. Thomas-we missed this spot the last time because of a hurrican-never been there before-St. Maarten-went there 2 years ago but without the kids.

Re: Should I jump on it or pass?? xx post

how many nights?

It doesnt sound like an outrageous deal to me.
Even if its 7 nights.
I usually guesstimate a cruise to be $100 per day. (of course it can be less or MUCH much more).
but even 700 X 4 = $2,800.

and I cant imagine (for myself) booking something even a year out, but 2yrs out, I would never.

7 nights. We paid $3,500 on NCL for 4 of us, inside room, 7 nights to Bermuda. 2 years ago the RCCL cruise my dh and I went on was a window room, $2,500 for both.
That is why I didn't think this was a bad deal.
We want to go on this new boat so that is the only reason why I would book so far in the future.
Why wouldn't you book 2 yrs. out?

I agree...two years in advance is a Loooong time to book a trip.

Not a good enough deal in my opinion.

I would do it...3000 is a good price for 4 people on a new ship.

just get insurance...only put your deposit down(how much do they want for that right now?)

The TA wants $500 vs. the boat at $1,000.

I got a Royal Carribean brochure about Oasis of the Seas - it looks AWESOME!
I would love to go - but 2 years is a long time in advance - I would worry about something coming up..

Like what? I guess because we plan in advance all the time that it doesn't seem that bad for me. We planned our wedding 2 years in advance and all our vacations usually a year in advance.

Anything... One of your kids could get sick, there could be a hurricane - which from what I understand isn't covered by insurance.

Anything can happen in two years.

But, from what I've read here, I think deep down you've made your decision so forget what everyone here has to say and do what you want.

Thanks but I was just looking for opinions.
Anything can happen a month or a week before a vacation that has been booked close to it so that really doesn't bother me.

I would go for it -- it sounds like you really love to cruise and this boat is supposed to be a real stunner. If you are ok with booking far in advance, then def do it! HTH!

You could book a vacation for next month and there could be a hurricane or your kid could get sick, so that really doesn't make a whole lot of sense Chat Icon

I would book it OP. I think you said it's two rooms right? It sounds like a good deal to me. Many people book their vacations well in advance and have no issues Chat Icon

We book or plan our trips 1-2 years in advance all the time - so I say if you are happy with the price go ahead and book it. I wouldn't worry about the what ifs - as others have mentioned - those could happen even if you booked a month in advance. I would get insurance right away though in case something happens and you have to cancel since they usually have a 10-14 day time frame to buy it so it waves all preexisting conditions.

We just went on a RC cruise to Alaska. It was wonderful and we heard all about Oasis of the Seas and it sounds amazing.

Personally I think there will be lots of other good deals coming and I would also be concerned about going to the Caribbean in Oct when there could still be hurricanes. I would look for another time. But that is me.

Thanks everyone. We decided to book it today before it sold out or the prices went up too high and we wouldn't be able to go at all.
We were able to get a bigger room-with a window to the inside of the boat for only $300 more for all of us.

That is a great price!!!!!!!!!! We are paying $2000 for 2 people on another cruise. And you can always cancel. You have up until a certain time to do that.

BOOK IT!!!!!!! As long as you cancel before the final payment you will get your deposit back..no need to buy insurance now. If you want to change your dates you can...before final payment. Keep watching the prices, when they go down call your agent (or who ever you booked thru) and get a rate adjustment. I am sure they are going to go down by October 2010.

I am also looking to go either Aug or Oct 2010..just waiting for some of my cousins to make up their minds when they want to go.

The agency I work for has been so busy with bookings for this ship the last 2 weeks, its crazy!!!
