Posted by nixy Basically they use models this thin b/c the clothing falls the best on them. Its not about the models...its about the clothing. They don't want to have to start fitting girls w/boobs and curves.
True...
Many of the most famous 'super'models have boobs and curves - while still being thin. See Heidi Klum above, Tyra Banks, Helena Christensen, Nikki Taylor

I don't think it will change on the runways b/c no designer is going to design for every size while he is designing a collection. Basically they use models this thin b/c the clothing falls the best on them. Its not about the models...its about the clothing. They don't want to have to start fitting girls w/boobs and curves.
I agree 100%. Karl Lagerfeld was "dissapointed" that H&M carried "bigger sizes". So much so he almost had his line pulled from the stores.
It's starts with the designers & media.

this is the 'old' guard though...it seems like designers have taken an unhealthy turn when looking for models to show off their clothes...
it's almost like they want the model invisible so that all you see or all your eye is drawn to is the clothes, and not the model. it's terrible really.

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
nixy, that's a really good point, I didn't think of that. Right, what does it matter what I think? I won't find this stuff on a rack somewhere. And even if I could, I wouldn't be able to afford it.

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
Skinny people should not be banned but I would like to see more models that are "larger sizes". How many people are as thin as these models? Most are on the heavier side so shouldn't the majority of models look more like that? I've never seen anyone in real life look like this and frankly I'd be scared:

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
for runway- they should be skinny b/c the point of a runway model is to be a clothes hanger- they are not suppose to take away from the clothes
for print and magazines- I like a more curvy - muscular girl

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
I think half the problem is not the skinny models but the misrepresentation of what a size 10 or 12 is. Some outfits are cut way too short or narrow to put what a true 10/12 really is. I am sorry but if you weigh like 140 size 12 shouldnt feel like a size 2. Sometimes what they call "plus" size models look like they weigh 150 pounds...thats just ridiculous.

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
I think they should have models that represent all sizes on the runway...I want to see how someone my body shape will look in the clothes, not some girl who is a size 00!

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
just curious...
since 99% of the clothing on the runways are sooo utterly UNAFFORDABLE
why do people are do is modeling them? Meaning why do people want to see the outfit worn by all shapes and sizes...
when the vast majority of us will never be wearing them anyway?
just curious

Re: Should skinny models be BANNED?
no, not banned.
there is no reason for it. i think most girls will look up to models like heidi klum and tyra banks, before the super skinny models.
and i hate the skinny bashing. some of us cannot help it.
