should we plant a tree???
The red is the property line. We were thinking of planting a tree where the yellow circle is and someday having a flagstone walkway to the backyard put in. Do you think that space is too small for a tree?
The blue arch is where we want to put a Japanese Maple.
We just planted a Kwanzan Cherry in the backyard by the property line

I think it is a little tight and also from experience, you do not want a tree near your driveway for 2 reasons. #1 the roots can spread and wreck your driveway and also you will have messy cars.

Re: should we plant a tree???
I thought about the roots and the driveway.
Do you think a Japanese Maple would cause the same problem? I see so many houses with them near their driveway and love how it looks.

Re: should we plant a tree???
It's hard to see how close the yellow spot is from your house...
I wouldn't plant any tree that would get taller than the distance of the trunk to the house.... I also would probably select a tree that is 'flame-shaped', and not too wide. (you don't want something growing over your driveway)
or maybe something not too dense or tall, like a weeping cherry tree?
definitely a smaller tree... and those would also not develop root systems so huge that they'd disturb the driveway

Re: should we plant a tree???
Are you going to be putting a fence between your house and the neighbors house?
I think what would look nice there and will divide the two properties and in the future add privacy to both you and your neighbor is a Leyland Spruce Tree.
They usually grow pretty tall. People plant them next to each other and they turn into a nice privacy screen....Also they are affordable. The garden center near me sells them at 5 for $100. They start off about 4 feet tall and grow a lot higher.
I wouldnt plant a tree that is going to end up growing over your property line onto your neighbors side. That can just start trouble. My neighbor has an annoying tree that the branches comes over on my side and in the spring my car is covered in Pink flowers....and it is all over my lawn and in my flower bed.

I agree with the above 2 reasons 100%
What about planting some nice low shrubs along the property line?
I think where the blue circle is, either one of those small japanese maple trees or my personal favorite, one of these shrubs that is swirly shaped.
eta: Your house is to die for, its gorgeous!!!!!
