Has anyone asked the town to plant a tree curbside?

We are in Town of Hempstead and are interested in having 2 trees planted near the curb on the side of the house (we're a corner).

Did anyone have this done? Is there a charge if we request it (vs. free if they decide to do it)? Also, will they look at the entire sidewalk to determine if any of the concrete needs to be replaced? Our concrete is fine on the side but has some bad sections in the front.

Thanks!

I dont know anything about the trees, but I would be interested in finding out about it. As far as the concrete goes, if it needs to be replaced, then that is the owners responsibility.

We didn't ask the town to do it, but we did call to get the list of trees they allow...

yeah, i know the sidewalk is our responsibility. once the town sees it, if they think it is bad, they will give notice that it must be fixed by a certain time or you get fined. concrete can be so expensive! where i want the trees the concrete is fine. hmmm...maybe kate murray's helpline will tell me who to call about the trees!

Talk to the Town's highway department and ask them about it. Stick with the trees they recommend, so that your sidewalk doesn't get uplifted too quickly.

My mom is in TOH and asked the town for 2 trees in front of her house. There was a pretty long waiting list but after about a year when she got home from work they were planted. No charge. As far as I know the condition of your sidewalk does not come into play at all.

Sidewalk, even if it lifts in time from tree roots, will be your responsibility. Keep this in mind.
