Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
My DD was born on 5/2. She is a very restless/agitated sleeper and I do have her swaddled in the Miracle Blanket. She still wakes up 3-4 hours after a midnight feeding. I try to give her the binky to stretch it and sometimes it works and I can get 5 hours out of her but that is the max. Then after I get up at around 4am to feed her, she is very difficult to get back to sleep. She constantly fidgets, grunts, groans, wimpers, etc. and doesn't usually fall back to sleep until about 6:30.
Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night by now? Is there something I should be doing differently or something I can do to help keep her more calm so she will let herself sleep?

My son is 7 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night. He eats 2-3 times a night.
At your DD's age he was eating every 1-2 hours still.

Less than two months, I wouldn't expect it now. In fact, I'd be pretty dang happy with 3-4 hours at a time. I know that's not what you wanted to hear.

at 6 weeks old?? I don't know many babies at that age that slept thru the night, you should be happy with the 4 or 5 hour stretch you get...

Re: Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
There have been a ton of posts lately on this board about sleeping through the night. I am happy for those who experienced this phenomenon at 6 weeks - however, from books and speaking with friends & family with kids I have found this is the exception and not the rule.
DS will be 11 weeks tomorrow and we still get up 2x during the night. Sometimes we go 3 hours and sometimes we go 5 hours. This seems to change depending on the week. I think this has to do with growth spurts.
My ped said to expect much longer stretches between 3 and 4 months.
Good Luck!

Right-i have noticed A LOT of the sleeping thru posts too and find myself scratching my head b/c it took my DD a lot longer to do it! she did STTN at about 2.5 months for like a week-then it truly took until after 4 months for her to drop the first feeding. she still woke up @ 5am for her 2nd feeding (i BF) and then went right back after so i didn't mind it. that lasted until 10 months. and after that, hoorary! full STTN and is a great sleeper today. i thought in the beginning that i would NEVER ever sleep a full night again without a baby waking me up. it will happen for your. just be consistent and patient. i know it's frustrating. did your first DD sleep through right away?

Re: Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
DS was born 5/7 & tends to have 1 long stretch...usually from 7pm-1am or sometimes from 9pm-3am, but then he tends to be up every 2 hours after that.
Last night he ate at 9:30 & slept until 3:30, but then was up at 5:30 to eat & he'll probably eat around 7:30-8am.
I heard someone say once that once they hit 12lbs they're more likely to sleep longer too...
Hang in there...

Re: Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
DS didn't start until 10w and I actually thought that was fairly early.
Is she waking to eat? If so maybe try to see that she eats precisely every 3 hours during the day so that she's full when she goes to sleep. That's how we got DS to go through the night, though it took until he was down to 1 feeding in the night and he was on a more regular feeding schedule during the day.

Re: Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
my DC were born 12/30 and aren't sleeping through the night. At 6 weeks I'd be lucky to get 2 consecutive hrs of sleep.

My DS is just starting to sleep through the night now at 8 months old. Not every baby sleeps through the night early.

Re: Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
DS is 6 months old and doesn't STTN. He wakes up anywhere from 1-3 times per night to nurse. It's pretty common for a baby your DD's age to not STTN yet.

Re: Shouldn't she be sleeping through the night already?
Ds didn't start sleeping through the night until he was 8 months old...he woke up at 12 & 4am for a breastfeeding. I probably should of let him CIO at some point but he actually just started sleeping through on his own..
