shower curtain vs glass doors

Do you prefer shower curtains or sliding glass doors for a bathtub?

I had always preferred doors but lately Ive been seeing really nice curtains and Im considering that instead.

Anyone know of pros/cons?

Re: shower curtain vs glass doors

I have shower doors in both my showers. I just recently bought a nice fabric liner for my DH's shower bc he doesn't keep up with them as well as me. I must say, it looks gorgeous with the doors & still having the convience of the shower curtain inside! NO hassle of cleaning now!

Re: shower curtain vs glass doors

I'm a fan of curtains because they are easy to maintain, but with kids doors are better because the water doesn't leave the tub!!

I hate the way the curtains try to attack you when you are in the shower

I was going to post the exact same thing. I also like how you can change the shower curtain and some accessories and you have a totally different look to your bathroom.

When we lived in our apartment, I HATED the shower doors with a passion. I had to scrub the track with a toothbrush and go into the shower to clean the inside.

thanks guys, Ive always had glass doors and have one in our bath now...I agree they are a PIA to clean!

But I heard curtains were also hard to clean and the liners had to be changed often? I think we'll try a curtain and see how that goes, thanks for the responses! Chat Icon

curtains can be washed, they're the easiest thing in the world to clean, just toss it in the washing machine Chat Icon

if you buy a heavy duty liner (I get them at TJ Maxx for around $7), you will only have to replace them twice a yr. from what I have heard, you can also toss the liner into the washing machine, but it can get really icky so I just throw it out and buy a new one.

The curtains Im looking at are made of suede/velvet material so not sure about washing that itself but if the runner is only $7, thats not bad at all to change a few times during the year - thanks!!

As far as liners go, I found that if you make sure to close the curtain again after you're done showering, it lasts longer and doesn't get mildewy as fast. I used to always leave the curtain open after getting out of the tub and it got really gross really fast.

Plus, changing the liner is pretty quick, and they're not expensive.

Curtain all the way. With a real heavy liner, it stays put and you won't get attacked!

We had shower doors and I hated cleaning them. THey always had water spots on them no matter what I did. We ended up taking them down so we could easily bathe our kids in it and we haven't looked back!

Re: shower curtain vs glass doors

I use a liner and a shower curtain. I throw the liner in the wash once a month and replace it with another ad switch them off.

I had shower doors..it was such a PIA to clean them.

Re: shower curtain vs glass doors

definitely curtains - because cleaning is easier and it is VERY hard to clean kids with the doors. You are limited to only half the tub and can't lean on anything.

I would definitley go with the curtains. We have doors (we rent so we have no choice) and they are impossible to clean. They always look dirty!
