Shower Curtains
OK... i have never seemed to have this problem before... Growing up I think we always had glass doors and never shower curtains... so i am a shower curtain moron!
Our Plastic shower curtain that goes underneath the nice one gets REALLLY YUCKY!!!
I try to clean it with tilex and other bathrooms sprays and stuff... but it is so hard to clean... Is this something that happens to everyone??
Are you supposed to replace them once a year or something??

Re: Shower Curtains
I replace mine every couple of months as well. The first signs of any discoloring and I get a new one. They're inexpensive enough - $3-5.

Re: Shower Curtains
I've never had a problem like that. I just replaced mine after a year! I spray the entire shower (including the shower liner) with the mist and go every day. Once I had a problem with it getting dirty (at the edge b/c it folded over and I didn't notice) I cleaned it with bleach and it was fine.

Re: Shower Curtains
We replace them every couple of months - I've gotten them for less than $3 at Walmart or Target. The Scrubbing Bubbles automatic shower cleaner does a pretty good job of keeping it clean, except when it folds over.

I also replace mine every few months. I haven't tried it yet, but someone just told me that Target has a mildew resistant liner that costs about $15.

Re: Shower Curtains
I have never needed to replace the curtain but the liner I replace as soon as I see mildew. Stop and Shop has them for 2 for $5.

Re: Shower Curtains
I buy the heavy duty clear liners (Croscill I think) at TJ Maxx and they last at least 6-8 months without needing to be changed.

I have the same one and I love it! I used to get the cheaper vinyl ones, but they would get kind of gross after a while. It was a huge pain to clean. The fabric one is much easier to take care of.

Re: Shower Curtains
I have a problem with mildew & rust on my shower curtains ( and in my bathroom in general)
We get the kind of fabricy ones form BEd , Bath & Beyond, b/c I don't like the vinyl, and they are more expensive to replace.
I also have a long tub, so I need 2.
Washing them inthe machine helps, and between washings, I spray with bleach for the mildew & scrub with Lime Away for the rust.
Using a daily shower spray helps too ( we have the Tilex one), as does keeping a window open, if you can.
I also keep Damp-Rid in the bathroom to help with the overall Mildew issue.
I thought I was just a bad housekeeper, but once I bought shower curatin linrrs from Target & someone had returned USED ones and they were dirtier than the oens I was trying to replace-- also with the mildew & rust.

Re: Shower Curtains
For those with fabric shower curtains - you don't use vinyl liners? I have a fabric surtain but use a clear liner and that is what I replace every couple of months. (haha - and it HAS to be clear - I hate the frosty ones)

Re: Shower Curtains
Thanks Ladies!!!
I would have NEVER known that this is something you are supposed to replace every few months!!
I have been blaming poor DH for not closing the curtain when he was done showering... telling him it was all his fault!!
I guess i need to make a trip to walmart!!

Same here. I wash in a cold wash with detergent and a splash bleach. Good as new and it's a small way to conserve plastic.

That's where I get mine. I used to try to clean them, but I think I was doing just as much damage to the environment with all the cleaning products.
I have a fabric curtain with a vinyl liner.

We don't have a window in our bathroom so ours gets gross quickly. We replace it every few months.
