Shower locations - nassau & other questions
Anyone have suggestions for me?
I'm looking for a shower location for October - somewhere in Nassau, south shore. It will be a pretty small shower... under 40 people I'm guessing.
Also, how does it work with gifts for someone who lives OOS? Do we ask that big items be sent directly to us in San Diego? But then what do I open at the shower?
How far in advance do you send out invites?

Re: Shower locations - nassau & other questions
I'm no help with locations, but I threw a local shower for my bff who was in CO a few years ago. We sent invitations out at the "regular" time (I think it was between 6-8 weeks). We told her to register at her store of choice (BRU was closest to her) and then just put a little insert in the invitation requesting gift cards instead of gifts so that it would be easier for mommy to travel home. I'll have to see if I can find it & I'll give it to you.
In the end she still got LOTS of little things that she got to open, so it was fun for her. I think most people gave her a g/c in a card attached to a small gift like bottles, rattles, blankets, clothes, etc...Some people printed out pics of what they ordered & were having shipped to her - it was nice!
ETA: I found what we wrote...hope it helps!
Susan is registered at Babies “R” Us, but in an effort to keep her journey home easy & stress-free, we’d like to ask those wishing to bring gifts to please either pick up a gift card, place the order online or contact her local store in Colorado to place the order over the phone.*
Babies “R” Us contact info Address City, State Zip Code Phone #
Thank you!
*By placing the order over the phone she & Ed can pick it up themselves & you will save on shipping & handling fees!
********** The wording might seem tacky to some, but she was 35w at that point & she REALLY appreciated it. Several of the guests even commented that it was a great idea

Re: Shower locations - nassau & other questions
all i know is that if you register at BBB opr BRU people can choose to have gifts shipped to you - those stores keep your address on file.
i don't know if it's too far for you but i went to 7th street cafe once in garden city and there was a baby shower going on - two actually, since they have a downstairs room and a separate party area upstairs. it was so cute!

Re: Shower locations - nassau & other questions
I would think if you put a note for big items to be shipped to you, that would be fine or like someone said some places will have it on your registry. I think you don't have to worry about stuff to open - even with gifts going to you in CA, people will bring things - diaper cakes, little outfits, books - plenty of cute stuff to enjoy and go gaga over:)
As for places - I just went to a bridal shower at Guy Anthony's in Merrick and it was great. We had the whole place to ourselves, about 30-40 people. You said Nassau, but I know Captain Bill's in BayShore does a nice job for showers as well. Happy planning!

We've had nice events about that size at Gabrielle's in RVC and Sole in Oceanside.

We are doing ours in Nassau, not South Shore though, at Baci Cafe in Westbury. The food is really really good there and the service is great too. I'll let you know how it turns out!
