silly question re: hospitals and visiting hours...
this may be a silly question, so I apologies in advance! Will DH be allowed to stay in the hospital with me 24/7 after I deliver? I DO NOT want to be by myself (or with a stranger) during such vulnerable time.
I am around 5 weeks pregnant, so it's still early, but DH and I are looking into Winthrop.
TIA!

Re: silly question re: hospitals and visiting hours...
It really depends on the hospital.
I don't have personal experience with Winthrop but I'm sure they specify their policies on their website.
I'll be delivering at Huntington. If we pay the extra $$ to have a private room DH can stay overnight and the baby never has to go to the nursery.
Without the private room visiting hours for DH end at 10, but the nurses are pretty flexible as long as your room mate doesn't complain.

Re: silly question re: hospitals and visiting hours...
You have to check with the hospitals policy. You might have to get a private room to do that. I know where i will deliver at NYU Hospital in the City visiting hours for dad are over at 10pm I believe.

I'm delivering at Lenox Hill and dads can stay the night if you have a private room.

Re: silly question re: hospitals and visiting hours...
Winthrop does not allow husbands to stay overnight. There visiting hours for fathers are from 9am-10pm. Here is a good site to explain there policies... Winthrop
I'm sure if you deliver in the middle of the night they don't expect your husband to leave, but the next night I would think they would.

Thanks, I saw this when we were researching, but I didn't see where they say fathers can't stay overnight. Personally, I think it's just mean to leave the new mom alone

Re: silly question re: hospitals and visiting hours...
I delivered at St Catherines and although I never asked they also never pushed DH out. I didn't want DH to stay the night, first we have a dog so he went home to care for her. But my other thought was that I wasn't sure how rested I would be after my first ever hospital stay and when we brought the baby home I wanted him to be rested so if we were up all night at least one of use was rested to start.
When I was there, I woke up, showered, ate, fed ds and then DH would arrive as DS was napping or we were "playing" then the whole day I had company. DH would leave around 11ish after we brought DS back to the nursery and I was settled to go to bed
Plus we live about 8 minutes from the hospital so commute wasnt an issue

Winthrop won't allow them to stay over.
I delivered at NSUH Manhasset and DH was able to come and go as he pleased. I loved that. The baby was also with me 24/7 (although I did return the to the nursery when DH left late at night (after 11 p.m. usually) so that I could get some sleep).

Same with us at St. Catherine's. I was glad when DH left - he was obviously exhausted by the end of the day and I wanted some quiet time too. Also, there are no beds for DH and he definitely would not have gotten enough rest in a chair.
Him sleeping on the pull out chair in the delivery room was bad enough!
I also found with St. Catherines that they served dinner right in the middle of visiting hours so DH would go out and get us something and we would eat together after everyone left at 8.

Re: silly question re: hospitals and visiting hours...
where I delivered, here in Charlotte, all the rooms are private....they have a daybed for the husbands. I am not sure if you have to share a room how that would work. It was not an issue for us....dh stayed the whole time, I would not want it any other way
