since its C-section month on LIF...if you were induced...do u ever feel jipped from the whole CB experience?

I never thought about it really until tonight. One of my good friends is in labor...lost her mucus plug....Is having contractions...etc. It sounds all so very crazy and exciting.

I was late...induced and wound up with a C Section. Although at the time I was just so happy to finally get this baby out of me...and all I cared about was that she was healthy...when I hear birth stories I get a little jealous!

My water never broke...I never had any contractions on my own...never lost my mucus plug...all that anticipation...and Nothing!

And I don't think I ever will be able to since I'm not a good candidate for a vbac....I was late, induced, never fully dilated and had a 9 lbs 11oz. Baby.

Anyone else feel this way?

I responded on the other thread, and yes, I feel so cheated. I know so many say it doesn't matter how the baby gets here, as long as they arrive healthy, but I don't easily get over it... I feel very bitter and depressed about it still.

In fact, DS and I are sitting here in bed right now looking at pics of when he was born. It still hurts.

I am laying on the c-section table, half-awake and drugged to the nines, looking at my baby for the first time and reaching towards him, but not holding him. Horrible. Of course, there are a ton of pics of DH holding him. I'm not a jealous person at all, but I envy that I missed out and envy DH.

I am determined to try for a VBAC this time.

eta: All along in my first pregnancy, I did so much reading and it all usually said, "When it comes to the birth, the best thing to do is expect the unexpected."

I really poo-poo'd this notion, and never in a million years thought I'd end up with a c/s, let alone an emergency one.

My baby wasn't measuring big originally, he was head-first, the last doc I saw before going into labor said it was going to be highly unlikely I'd ever end up with a c/s... all was good to go...and then it all went downhill.

I was induced and I actually feel pretty good about it. I went in without any expectations - I was mentally and physically done and I knew my c-section rate was dramatically increased (my OB gave me the numbers - they are alarming! but I was a good candidate so that tempered them), and that really helped set the bar for me in terms of expectations. But in the end, for me, being induced gave me a sense of control, which I really like being a control-freak. The thought of going into labor gave me agita (sp?). I could see how I might feel differently if I actually liked surprises or if it had ended differently or if I went into it with something particular in mind - that all makes a lot of sense to me and I've heard it a lot from many friends who did not get their perfect birth (though one did have a successful vbac with her 2nd). I did not have a c-section and now, after reading all these threads, I'm scared $hitless in case I have to in the future - you ladies are so brave! I really admire you!

Yes with a capital "Y"!!. Induced after my due date, drugs, no progress, 42 hours later, etc etc etc... c-section. Took me a few months to get over it to be normal to talk about it. I would totally try for a VBAC next time around but DH is REALLY against it.

Definitely feel cheated and still a bit bitter and upset! I was told on Tuesday afternoon that I was having a C-section on Thursday morning at 39 weeks (because I ran out of amniotic fluid.) Yes, it was the right thing for the health and safety of my son, but I do feel cheated and that I missed out on the whole experience - water breaking, contractions, excitement, go to hospital, etc.

Re: since its C-section month on LIF...if you were induced...do u ever feel jipped from the whole CB experience?

F.. Freaking HECK NO!

No way no how and no ma'am

I had contractions for 8hrs. I wasn't induced but I had a c/s cuz she was breech - something I knew. I got pissy they actually kept testing to see if she'd moved for awhile. Because if she did I'd have to push her out.

Why in GODS HOLY NAME WOULD I WANT TO DO THAT?!

Heck to a captial H NO WAY!

I feel I'm a lucky gal I got a C/s. Just unlucky I had to wait 9hrs to get one. I only wish she'd waited until her schedule date for less drama. Cause seriously that crap was insane and a major reason why I'm one and done. For me, I don't understand how anyone in their right mind would volunteer for such pain and suffering. Yes, I know people do, and hey, if it makes you happy - kudos. I don't think its beautiful. I don't think it makes us women. I don't think it makes us moms. I thought it was barbarian and as if my body no longer belonged to me. I felt violated and abused. So very glad I didn't have to push.

But thats just MY opinion.

It kind of makes me feel better reading this. I can see your point, too. It's easy for me to feel bad and cheated, but had I had that experience you had, maybe I'd feel different. Chat Icon

Re: since its C-section month on LIF...if you were induced...do u ever feel jipped from the whole CB experience?

I had a wonderful C-Section and a wonderful recovery...I really can't complain...South Nassau was amazing...I never wanted to leave because all the nurses.

I just wish I had experienced the whole excitement and craziness of getting contractions or my water breaking and driving to the hospital with DH and all that adrenaline rush.

I had my weekly Dr.'s appointment and my BP was high...so my Dr. told me to go to the hospital to get monitored for Pre Clampsia. So I drove myself to the hospital...called my mom...told DH not to come because I was just getting monitored. After a few hours my Dr. said that i would either go home on bedrest or be induced....so I chose induction. I was admitted...DH came...got the Cervadil...the epi 12 hours later...they broke my water a few hours later....and NOTHING...a few hours later C-Section. So uneventful!

i also hated the fact that i was so tired after the surgery....i didn't see DD until after recovery...hours and hours later :(

ETA: There is no way in hell I would have wanted to push a 9lbs 11oz baby out vaginally either....I probably would have torn up my areaChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I got to endure 23 hours of labor before I ended up with an emergency c-section. I was induced, felt my contractions until I had my epi, dilated 10 cm, ready to go, pushed for 2 hours...DS turned and tried to come out my back...I was begging for a c-section. My vitals went all screwy...I was so excited that I got it..DS was 8 pounds, 6 ounces and all HEAD!!! I would have been in serious pain after that. My section went great..Healed very fast from it..

Nope, don't feel jipped at all....

Ds was scheduled due to size...

Then with DD I went into labor the wee hours of the morning before my scheduled c-section was to happen....Felt contractions and my water broke....Then had my c-section...

No thanks, I'll gladly take my c-section Chat Icon

Well I was induced twice and wound up with 2 v-births. I dont feel jipped at all and actually liked being able to pack, plan, go out to a nice dinner and then show up at the hospital at a certain time(but I'm a control freak Chat Icon)

Don't feel jipped but I was and still am very sad that I won't ever get that experience that I envisioned every since I was little of childbirth. I guess it's NOT the worst thing in the world to not push a watermelon out of an orange. Chat Icon

Re: since its C-section month on LIF...if you were induced...do u ever feel jipped from the whole CB experience?

I've thought about this recently and..a tiny bit.

I was having contractions the Wed before my due date (Sat). They were strong and 10 mins apart. I took a shower and got ready to go to the hospital..and they stopped. Went in to the Dr the next AM and they hooked me up to the machines and I WAS having strong contractions...just didn't feel them except for a tightening. They scheduled my induction for Friday, but said "we'll probably see you at the hospital before then" so such luck. I went in on Friday, got the pitocin..only ever made it to 2.5 centimeters dialated and 75% effaced. Got the epi, they broke my water..nothing. I feel asleep and next thing I know, they are waking me up saying babies heart is in distress and maybe we should go for the C. I agreed bc I was tired and a little nervous and just wanted to hold my baby. 30 minutes later, I was holding her. Chat Icon The cord was around her neck, so she couldn't descend. I kinda had a feeling my whole pregnancy I'd wind up with a C. The only thing that $ucked was that I had a bad reaction to the drugs and couldn't see the baby for about 5 hours.

i felt cheated for awhile. but now i couldnt care less cause i have a healthy son. who knows what would have happened if i went a 3rd round of cervidil. i was thinking about trying for a VBAC for my second, but realized its better just do the section again.

Re: since its C-section month on LIF...if you were induced...do u ever feel jipped from the whole CB experience?

I wish I could see what a contraction feels like...but I guess that is a silly thing to envy.

It is weird, I feel like everytime I saw a delivery in a movie or on TV, I sort of told myself, that's going to be me one day. Not looking forward to it...not thinking much more then one day my time will come.

I think it is weird I will never experience it.

But I have a lot of sisters and someone better let me in the room with themChat Icon I think if i see it i will be okay with not doing it.

Re: since its C-section month on LIF...if you were induced...do u ever feel jipped from the whole CB experience?

I had two c-sections, though I went into labor with both.

But if I was induced, NO, I wouldn't feel "jipped". I have a really difficult time wrapping my mind around that perspective - to me, childbirth is a means to an end, and it's the END, which is a healthy baby, which is the priority. I don't care if I have to sneeze the baby out, push it out or have it pulled out - it's inconsequential, as long as the end result is a healthy, safe little baby.

I think my perspective might be a little skewed because, while I was pregnant with Yael, I knew of two people who tried a VBAC, one of which lost her baby because her uterus collapsed, and the other almost lost her life for the same reason. That helped me see that the most important thing is healthy mommy and healthy baby, not the "experience" itself.

No, because I got the best of both worlds, so to speak, lol. I was induced and experienced 14 hours of pure torture before having a c/s. So all I missed was pushing him out of my kooka...which scared the ever-loving shiite out of me anyway, so I'm ok with my c/s lol. So much so that I looked forward to my 2nd one. Chat Icon

Just wanted to add.. The only thing I feel like I missed out on is the ability for my stomach to return to the way it was pre-pregnancy. I have a lot of scar tissue left over from the c-section.

I just posted about this! Mine was unscheduled and was emergency, so I did have contractions and my water did break, but I felt gyped of the whole pushing thing.

I do not feel jipped at all.

With DD I was in labor for 18 hours, pushed and everything but she was stuck. My epidural had been turned down and went away completely. I had complete back labor. I was in excrucitating pain, vomitting, crying and everything. I was so relieved when they called for a c-section.

With DS I was a scheduled c-section but I had pre-term labor at 27 weeks. I was put on meds and complete bedrest so I had regular contractions for about 12 weeks. I lost my mucus plugs in the weeks before delivering. etc.

So I truly feel like I have experienced it all. Honestly, my labor experience was so bad that if I had to go through it a second time I would not have.
