Typical. When these vendors hear the word wedding, they jack up the price.

I dont find this suprising.

Your friend needs to find a new florist & PRONTO!

I think you gave your friend good advice -- sadly if she pays that much it will not be appreciated by the guests.

Maybe she should take those pics and get a quote from another florist if carnations is what she wants.... I'm sure someone else could do that for her cheaper!!

Besides the fact that she's TOTALLY being ripped off, I think your point to her is exactly right ... NONE of her guests will ever think she spent that much and it just really won't be appreciated as a $200 CP. She could get something that looks way more expensive or just pay $50 for the same thing from another florist.

I made this with all silk flowers and it only cost me about $45.

Plus I used all rose buds, so it took a LOT of flowers AND it is about 14 inches in diameter.

She is really getting ripped off.

Thank you all - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being too objective...

Just to answer some questions:

- Just one color carnations (hot pink)
- The florist supposedly used 182 carnations to create the lush-look
- It's in a glass martini-type of bowl
- it's 8"
- and he wants to charge $200 - yes...$200 per piece...

My friend asked me to take a guess at how much they were running her....

My jaw dropped (b/c obviously I couldn't help it) - and I advised my friend "hey listen, you have to spend, by all means, but I will tell you right now, as a guest at your wedding...I wouldn't think you spent more than $45 on the CP."

I would have counted every single flower in that cp.

I can't believe there are 182 carnations in there.

that is just effing insanity.

Even if there were 182 carnations. Carnations, at wholesale, only cost around 15-20 CENTS a piece. Ridiculous!

I don't think those look like $200. But maybe they are a special kind of carnation. What do I know.

WOW! That is ridiculous! My bouquet wasn't even that much & I had 3 or 4 dozen roses. Hell, my bouquet & 4 bridesmaids bouquets were only a little more than the cost of 2 of those centerpieces!

I had a similar centerpiece for my wedding except a ball on top of a candlestick. I bought the sticks myself they were $8 and teh florist charged me $45 per centerpiece. I thought they looked great and not 4th grade graduation at allChat Icon

They would be easy to DIY but I didn't have time since I did so much other DIY stuff

That's much more reasonable! And they look great. I'm nto usually a carnation fan, but all one color, all shmushed together like that makes quite an impact & looks really pretty.

Thanks. I got the idea from Grace Ormond. I was not a fan of the tall CP's and we had an outdoor cocktail party type atmosphere. They do look good all bunched together. I had a mixture of clors-one color on each table

You've got to be kidding me, I had calla lilies, casa blanca lilies, roses, orchids, curly willow in huge footed vases with candles and I only paid 70 a piece for them. She's crazy
