Sinus surgery for polyps
I have to get sinus surgery for polys that are in my sinuses and my nasal cavity.
Anyone have this done? Any info or advice you could give me would be much appreciated - I'm really nervous!

Re: Sinus surgery for polyps
I had this surgery in '96 or '97. It was an outpatient surgery. I had it done at Mercy in Rockville Center, I don't remember the Dr's name though.
The surgery was not bad at all. The most painful part was when they removed the packing a day or two later. It is a little uncomfortable to breathe through your nose for a few days. So make sure you drink plenty of fluids bc you will be breathing through you mouth. After the surgery, I stopped getting migraines and having sinus pressure.
FM me if you have any more questions.

Re: Sinus surgery for polyps
I had this done in 8/03 - at Manhattan Eye, Ear, & Throat (MEETH) .
I had a few things done though - the surgery wasn't bad at all - Having all 4 of my wisdom teeth out was worse.
I had polyps removed, turbinates shrunk, maxillary sinuses opened up and my septum corrected. It was a day op procedure - so I was in at 6 am and out by 1 or so. The packing was uncomfortable - but they removed that at like 7am the next morning. The worst part was that you have to sleep upright for about 5 days - and have a little uncomfortable postnasal drip for a day or two. Since having it done I never get sinus infections any more (I used to get them about 6-10 times a year).
FM me if you have any questions.

Re: Sinus surgery for polyps
DH had this done last winter - it is uncomfortable, but he was a trooper. he didnt really complain much - hardest part was getting the packing removed at the doctors office - i couldn't even watch - his feet got all tensed up and his eyes were tearing from it.
but he feels great! - good luck - you will be glad you had it done!

This sounds like me - I have pretty "serious" sinus disease, I have to have my septum corrected, polyps removed from, sinuses opened up and I don't know what else. She was kind of nervous about it because I guess my sinuses never fully formed and she said it's harder to do the surgery because when they are in there, they look for "landmarks" and some of mine never developed.
Thanks for the info. I'll probably be FMing you!
