Sippy cup help needed!

Madeline will not drink from a sippy cup. We have tried Avent, Gerber, Playtex, First Years, she just doesn't know how to suck. What worked for you ? She needs to drink water, and I've been giving it to her like Mother bird, through a strawChat Icon

Any tips would be greatly appreciated ... tia

ETA: duh! She's 13 months . I have been trying off and on since about 7 months

Re: Sippy cup help needed!

how old is she? it took brendan a while to figure it out. i just kept offering it with every meal. if the cup has a valve, take the valve out so that the water will drip out without her having to suck. i also always filled the cup all the way to the top so that he wouldn't have to tilt his head back or really suck to get the water out. another thing that helped him learn was the take and toss sippy cups. i used the tip of a knife to make the holes a little bigger and since the cup is not that firm i was able to squeeze it a little bit as he drank to help the water come out. also, drink from the cup too so she can see what she's supposed to do with it. now brendan prefers the nuby cups, but he'll drink from any one really. for a long time he used to just take a tiny sip here and there and didn't ever drink anything substantial. it wasn't until he was about 11 months old that he started chugging! eta: i just thought of something else...have you ever tried letting her drink from the cup with the lid off (with you holding it obviously)? that way she'll know what's in there and might want to try to get it out once you put the lid back on

Try the Nubbys!! Very soft tip like a bottle, Julia was BF 11 months, and she took to the Nubby sippy right away!

Re: Sippy cup help needed!

There is one sippy cup that is similar to a bottle - I believe it is Nubie . I am not sure if I have the name right though. It is supposed to be good.

Re: Sippy cup help needed!

try the Nuby's.

We used the Avent at first around 6/7 mths and took the valve thingy off so the water flowed freely for her.

Once she grasped the concept we put it back on otherwise there was water EVERYWHERE.

Now she LOVES the tall Nuby for milk and will drink water from any others

Nuby makes one with a straw that is great! Try that.
